DOES PARRAMATTA ACTUALLY NEED GALVIN?

I actually hope Parramatta don't get Galvin as what he will cost does not match the talent he will bring.

Between Longi and Papalia we have a 6 and a 1 who will take far less money out of the cap and  if I had to choose between Galvin as a player and Longi as player id take Longi 100% , this kid is all class in everything he does.

Galvin has proved zero and to pay a kid 700k + who has done zero is a huge risk because he could easily become another Dylan Brown , Parramatta need to stop paying big dollars for potential because as a club we have had no luck in this department. We need at least one top shelf centre and a few top shelf to medium shelf forwards and not a kid who has proven very little .

History has shown for decades that Parramatta do not have much luck when it comes to paying big money for players from others clubs , Parramatta have  succees when they develop their own juniors or buy good young players from others clubs on the cheap end develop them.

Galvin is a 400k player at best and not a cent more , Parramatta need to get back to what has given them success in the past and paying big money for purely potential has failed most of the time for Parramatta .

      • As a club if you want to be successful you have to have the best players,  teams with the best rosters win comps. To get the best players you firstly have to develop within,  it will always be the most affordable way of building a roster in within the salary cap,  secondly you have to recruit well to fill the wholes left in your development roster. Depending on what situation your current roster is in it means recruiting veterans at the back end of their careers looking for a last pay day and chance to win if your premiership window is open now or taking a swing on an up and coming talent if you are in a rebuild mode like the eels are currently in. Don't shy away from taking a swing on a young talent because you have got it wrong in the past, keep taking swings. The cowboys took a swing on Thurston, the knights took a swing on ponga, the storm have taken a heap of swing the most notable recent one was papenhuyzen.

      • Agree 100%, Coryn.

At 23 Galvin could well be top 5 player in the game, he has the skillset & more importantly the mindset, and being an Eels fan & family, likely would want to stay here for his career (success dependant).

Gus chasing him only solidifies his value.

Shop in the bargain bins for hard working forwards, who will give you every inch for your $$ (not saying Sandon is but in general).

As you said the Eels trajectory is looking really positive, but Galvin adds contender to that especially as we lose DB.

        Get it done, Parra.

        • 100 again right now we are in the throws of doing exactly that binning all our high priced fowards excluding Paulo Matto Ofa and Lane are the last on the outer dropping a mill plus in cap replaced by Tuivaiti Guymer Samarani Smith Jack Williams.

If you do land Galvin then really you are only looking at more competition around hooker to complete the puzzle.

Doing as you explained allows us to go big game hunting for those key guys.

No different to how Melbourne is built really.

But I think the key is here and you touch on it is having talent in your key spots really is the game changer for us again it's not a veiled shot at Sandon Smith or whomever we are targeting.

          • Exactly, it's the Storm blueprint and Ryles is clearly showing that strategy.

And its hard to argue when you look at players like Walker, Williams, Samrani etc

If Ryles wants Galvin, which he clearly does, as does Mitch Moses, it's up to the recruitment team to get it done.

  • If Galvin doesn't land at the Eels, it's a blessing in disguise. I've said previously maybe Sandon Smith would suit playing alongside Mitch. BUT the way Dylan Walker has played since arriving at the club, he's changed our attack.

IMO, Walker should be 5/8 next year while Papalii comes off the bench. Long term, if Papalii continues to improve, he should wear the no.6

Agree, the money we have right now would be better off getting a gun centre and a couple decent forwards.

    • So you think the coaching staff will drop penis I mean they should but after last weeks performance still didn't get dropped .

      • unfortunately he's the best option we have, but he is out next week due to concussion protocol. Whoever steps in has an opportunity to really impress

If the coaching staff believes Peninisi is their long term solution, they would have moved mountains to lock him up long term. Instead he's taken up a player option for 2026. If a gun centre comes on the market, I have no doubt he won't be resigned after his contract is up

The broncos are in a dilemma after resigning Reynolds and at the same time wanting to hold onto Cobbo. I think we should be seriously looking at Cobbo, Deine Mariner or Jesse Arthurs.

        • Samrami will be centre with Lomax coming back

          • Could well be right chief but I have a sneaking suspicion JR likes Penisini.

Best thing I heard JR say about Samrani is he wants to know all the details around doing whatever position he is picked for that's huge for a young player and it's positive to here.Samrani looks and plays like a back rower for mine and looks a bit one dimensional.

The reason I say back rower more so than a centre and this is the difference between him and Penisini the latter when he runs early with the ball carries in 2 hands.Samrani is a tuck and run guy with the pill which is why I have him as a line running back rower more so than a centre.

            • Penasini is out . If Samrani has a great game next week, he could keep.his position possibly.   He did very well against Manly.  Just needs to tidy up his sliding defense
