Canterbury hooker Reed Mahoney has agreed to a long-term deal to join the North Queensland Cowboys from next season.

Mahoney will see out the year at the Bulldogs before joining the Cowboys in 2026. The Bulldogs have agreed to release Mahoney from the final year of his contract after giving him permission to test the market a couple of months ago.

The Cowboys showed interest in Tallyn Da Silva and Broncos hooker Cory Paix. They have been in negotiations with Mahoney for a couple of months and this week landed his services.

  • Good move for both sides they've obviously been on this for awhile.

I feel ever since Mahoney has left Parra his development has stagnated and joining a rebuild at the Dogs hasn't helped his cause either,Captaincy isn't for everyone. In the end Reed made his own bed and hopefully his next chapter is better than his last.

    • They told him a couple of months ago he could look else  where and was reported that him a nd the cows were in discussions after their hooker signed with the Roosters  . Where else  was he going . Wasn't a surprise announcement to me

    • I've never seen him play better.

      • His 20-22 seasons he was lights out for us.Ive seen him play alot better with a decent foward pack around him.

  • I know for a fact the dogs are spewing they missed out on Tallyn Da Silva.

    • If he wasnt released mid season , they would have tried very hard for next year. Have a feeling that's why richo released him early so dogs couldn't get him as they would have no cap or spots for this year

    • Good

    • They have that kid there that's Paul Hayward the heroin traffickers grandson. He was a prick relation of Neddy Smiths too. They didn't really seem to have much of a shot at TDS which would lead you to think that their own kids in their plans. He goes ok and they only extended his contract this season.

  • Would've liked to see him back at Parra but it wasn't to be.

    Congrats to the Cowboys.
