Canterbury hooker Reed Mahoney has agreed to a long-term deal to join the North Queensland Cowboys from next season.

Mahoney will see out the year at the Bulldogs before joining the Cowboys in 2026. The Bulldogs have agreed to release Mahoney from the final year of his contract after giving him permission to test the market a couple of months ago.

The Cowboys showed interest in Tallyn Da Silva and Broncos hooker Cory Paix. They have been in negotiations with Mahoney for a couple of months and this week landed his services.

  • As he's a Qld junior I think NQ will be good for him..Hope it goes well

  • Wonder if this was announced last week would Da Silva have signed with us?

    • Well it wasn't and he did FMD

      • Very astute observation Grumble Bum. It was just a question. If you were so offended or annoyed then maybe don't bother responding.

        • Very glad you agree about the observation pity about the question

          • Alrighty.

    • What do you mean? He did sign with us.

      • I meant if Mahoney announced he was leaving sooner would Da Silva have wanted to sign with Dogs.

        • Oh I see, I don't think so. As Dogs have known for sometime that Mahoney is on the move, if they wanted Da Silva they could get a deal done. A player can want to play there but doesn't mean the club is interested.

Everyone knew Mahoney was not going to be at Belmore in 2026, Dogs knew it too.

          • Yeah you're probably right.
