Can our Eels save the Blues

I have no doubt that for NSW to turn around and defeat Queensland tonight it will be off the back of their Blue and Gold warriors - Jarryd Hayne and Nathan Hindmarsh.

NSW have just not looked good enough to get across the Queensland strip but the one man in the competition capable of producing points against even the tightest of defences is Jarryd Hayne.

I haven't been truly excited about a State of Origin contest for a long time. My passion for the Eels runs so deep that if my boys aren't at the centre of the action, I just can't garner up anything like that same level of adrenalin that flows through me when the Blue and Gold runs out to play.

But I'm pumped about tonight. I'm dying to see what Jarryd is capable of, playing his favoured position, surrounded by the best players in the game. Hayne has already been responsible for so many magical NSW moments and he is done so from the wing. The thought of what he might do from fullback sends a tingle down my spine.

And of course, let's not forget Hindy. For where Jarryd can create points, Hindy can save them. After an ordinary start to the season, Hindmarsh is back to his best and his offload also gives him an attacking weapon that NSW would do well to take advantage of.

Make no mistake, this is going to be one intense game. Queenslanders will be baying for blood and the racism furore that has taken place over the past few days is only going to serve to raise the temperature. Then of course there is the mouth-watering re-match between Jarryd and Billy-Dog Slater.

I have a feeling tonight could be one of those classic Origin encounters. C'arn the Blues.

  • I used to really love Origin as a kid but now I am like you I eyed and my enthusiasm is limited to the involvement of the eels players - i dunno maybe as you get older you are less able to 'accept' players from other teams just because they throw on the sky blue.
    • Origin is awesome... I love it.

Watching Origin 2 from 2005 right now just to get pumped.
  • I think the Blues will be better tonight than in Game 1, not confident they'll win though.
  • 1Eye i am equally as bias if NSW do win it will largely due to those two.

Also so glad hindy has been recalled no one is more deserving of a spot than him IMO
  • I hope the boys have a blinder, if nsw dnt deliver though it will be haynseys head theyl b after, like usual if jarryd duzn produce sum of his majic 2nyt they will crucify him 2mrw
    • x 2.

I really hope Hayne does well. we all know he is a great player but i am just sick of the burden being placed on him now that he got the fullback position. Like on the Footy show Fatty was saying as a joke that Hayne better score 5 tries now and Hayne was agreeing with him. Albeit a joke, i still think theres some truth to that comment in regards to how our IGNORANT nsw fan base thinks. They all probably expect him to perform miracles now and if he doesn't we're going to have to put up with their whingeing for the rest of the year.

And to add to that i just hope Hayne doesnt get injured. He is everything to parra and even though other fans might not appreciate his brilliance we sure do and we need him! :)
  • to be honest, i would prefer to see parra win on monday night than the blues win tonight.. my only concern when i watch origin is eels players getting injured
    • I think if Jarryd can perform at Origin level as well as does in his club football - it's going to do great things for his confidence. He'll be able to go into the grand final knowing he's already produced his best on the biggest stage.
  • Jarryd can be a try-scoring machine (even though he hasn't produced it this year) but if you look at the tries that he has set up, they are top of the range. It's mainly because he is targeted as a player that is why he is able to create more opportunities for other players. I also hate the people that put so much pressure on Hayne. I don't think I have ever seen players play like he did for the back half of the season.

We all know how great Hindy plays in origin so there's no need to talk him up. I think I heard that Hindy will be starting with Trent Shithouse starting off the bench
  • My concern is that Hayne's defensive work from Fullback isn't that great. He gets caught out of position far too often and can be lazy when trying to cover attacking raids.

Hindy has to start the game, and he needs to play most of the 80 I reckon. You're right about how many points he can save you, bobbing up where you least expect him.
