From Danny Wiedler Matt Burtons manager David Riolo asked the Bulldogs for permission to negotiate before Nov 1.  This was granted.

Riolo is trying to get ahead of the pack as there are numerous centres hitting the market come Nov 1.

The figure that has been offered to Matt Burton is as a centre and around the $700K mark.

Are we in the market?  Should we go for Birton as a centre or should we get him as a 5/8?

Thoughts?

  • 900k, any position.

    • 1mill. We need a catch.

on another note Sloan will be going to Super League.

    • I'll do it, but please be gentle

  • You reckon we are a shot of geetting him

  • Can't say I'm overly enthused with Burton. When we've already got a booming boot with Moses what is he going to bring to the team? Crichton already relegated him out of the 5/8 spot at the dogs. Every player has a value I guess, personally I wouldn't be going all that hard for Burton. There's more attractive options that are a better fit for us.

    • I definitely woudn't pay 5/8 money for him, but as a centre he's probably a good option for us. Gives us another boot in attack, and can shuffle in the backs and halves if needed to for injury cover. And at 26 he's got some good years ahead of him.

I'm not going to be fussed if we miss out on him, but I'd be pleased if we got him as long as it's purely as a centre.

      • He is a current origin selection and has a lot more talent than people on here appreciate. His left foot kicking game is a perfect foyle for Moses.

The 5/8...Centre choice is academic, what relationship he has with Luai is unknown, it will be a key determent for him as he will realise he starts in the centres and also knows his own ability to potentially take the 5/8 spot once Luai leaves.

This discussion about centre 5/8 money is absolute bullshit....when Parramatta are involved in negotiations with a high profile player it is totally irrelevant......we need any player that is an upgrade and the cap managers can decide what they want to pay.....if Talagi is worth 350k then Burton is worth 3 times that!!

  • Would take him for certain. Moses is getting older and Burton is a big body with a long kicking game that can make a poor yardage set look good with his long kicks and the spiral bombs of his is an added weapon too.
Would prefer to land him now than miss out on Best and Bostock later. He would also be available straight away I imagine which would be a great bonus for 27.
