Brown limited minutes

Not sure what ryles was thinking here. If you are going to push brown out of the halves but him in the centres for Russell. I can understand him wanting to adjust to life without brown but fuck me you play him or you don't. Not this half assed play him at hooker for 15mins.

    • Frank, To me  Ryles has identified numerous talent that he has wanted and the club keeps letting him down at the negotiation table. Our Recruitment manager has missed so much talent recently that I don't know how he keeps his job. Ryles is left trying to put together a first grade team with Rookies that may or may not have it.

I think the club is handcuffing Ryles to be honest with the lack of playing talent signed, and he has no choice but to attempt to put together a  team full of rookies.

      • Unfortunately, Ryles will end up bearing the consequence of an inept recruitment department.

the way he phrased his responses about player positioning says to me, 'this is what I have, Ive been told to male it work' which for any coach is a ridiculous position to be in let alone a rookie coach. It is looking more and more likely that the fears some had of Ryles being let down by the front office are starting to happen

  • Been a supporter of a lot of what Ryles has brought, but that was baffling.

Understand Joash needs to learn 5/8th, but that is what NSW cup is for, and more importantly, pre season & trials.

If Ryles feels first grade is better for Joash’s development, at least wait until Mitch Moses is back, or, the last rounds of the season when we are mathematically out of the finals race, or, maybe put DB at centre next to him to sure things up defensively.

Dylan may not be here next year, but a lot of these players are. Their fight & confidence is being impacted from these results, you can see it, there is no reward for their effort & it’s inevitable that it will start to eat away at that fight & spirit with loss after loss.

Pick & play your strongest team, the team who gives you the best chance at a result. Our strongest team is the best thing for every other player who is busting themselves trying, for the fans, for the club. DB is our best 5/8th by a long way.

Joash is a great kid, but he made a few big mistakes defensively that cost points & ended our chances. That’s fine, he’s learning, but that’s on Ryles.

It was 6-6 when DB left the field. 26-10 when he returns.

We are decimated by injury / suspension, have a very young & inexperienced spine, our captain & best player is out, and Ryles plays our most experienced spine member out of position, then, leaves him off until the game is over.

Ryles is frustrated by the errors, we all are, but he made the biggest one of all today.

    • JR in his press conference seemed to infer that Joash will be the 6 for the rest of the year so I do not expect anything to change. Brown is just going to play random positions that is needed. I do not think Papalii will succeed even after the pre-season given his size. He is purely a fullback to me that could develop into a 14 (to cover 9) but JR would know better than me. Guess will just have to see how it goes

      • I reckon name Dyl as 18th man and give Joash a extend run

      • I agree, great little fullback & like you see a world as a 14, but, as you said Ryles would know more than we would about his potential at 6.

The issue I see with that plan is that it feels very reactionary to losing Brown & failing to sign Galvin.

Ryles first & second choice 5/8ths.

Now, Joash is seen as next years 5/8th, is that because of his potential in that position or because the club were unable to keep / sign a replacement & the market is now pretty bare?

Is Ryles left with no choice but to promote from within?

I like Papalli, understand giving him his chance, but can't understand not waiting until Moses is back & not against the team who's chasing their 5th straight Premiership.

Anyway, as you say, see how it goes. Joash is such a great kid, definitely hoping he can make this switch.

    • 💯 frustrated jezz I was frustrated in preseason and now that we are nie on 2/3s the distance I'm so used to them it's just the norm and the narrative around them hasn't changed.

The comment that befuddles me is when in commentary there saying Parra were the better side in the first half well clearly not when your down on the scoreboard and made 9 errors.

If I can put the word consistent to any part of Parra's game it's the errors can't escape it they've been there all year and not much has changed. There's been sporadic improvement in areas but the above mentioned really is the only constant.

      • For sure Coryn, we had 4 errors in the first 12 minutes from memory. That's horrific. You can't blame fatigue or scoreboard pressure in 12 minutes.

Then capped it off with multiple offloads / passes directly to Panthers players who just happen to be wearing really bright pink jerseys. Hard to miss.

I love the way Ryles wants to play, but we have too many weak links who are not 1st graders & a spine who's too inexperienced to calm things down, imo.

I hope our R&R are pulling double shifts right now.

It's time to sign genuine talent & leadership. Whatever the cost. There are opportunities out there.

        • Everything crossed for brighter days ahead.

Your other comment about working hard for no rewards is apt.It could get really ugly even when Moses gets back.We don't want the spoon we just don't it'll erase alot of the good that has been done and it'll be like starting again next year.

Agree when it's all going well and we are going set for set playing that style we look good. The consistency of it just isn't there yet and we seemingly have it in our minds we want to go round teams and don't have the balance.

If I'm honest I hate seeing Paulo pass the ball so much I want to see him bruise some people with some hard running in attack. With all the side to side movement there are opportunities to really dent teams in the middle.

          • 100%. These players need wins as much as we do.

Balance, great way to put it.

Feel we are really missing Moretti there? Can offload, but his first instinct is always to run through the line.

Felt we created a lot of opportunities to shift wider off the back of his strong runs through the middle & defences struggling to adjust.

Brighter days ahead Coryn, without a doubt.

Jason Ryles in his after match press conference said that Joash is our 1st choice 5/8 going into the future. He also said that he wants to play him there as much as possible from now on to let him develop and build his game.
