Jason Ryles in his after match press conference said that Joash is our 1st choice 5/8 going into the future. He also said that he wants to play him there as much as possible from now on to let him develop and build his game.

I wouldn't say 100% more so I think he wants to see what he has in Joash. I reckon if a 6 comes available he will try and grab them.
I tend to agree LB. I think he needs to see some evidence that Joash can play 5/8 before committing to him for the full year. If not, I think he will go hard at chasing another young half stuck behind someone. I still think he's going after Pezet.
Pezet or someone in particular. I know it can media talk but Anasta said he has his eyes on someone. For Pezet to be available Hughes needs to extend, which seems likely, but needs to do so quickly.
Ryles being mates with Anasta could get the deal in motion quickly you'd imagine 😂
I'd have walker at 6 next year, let Lorenzo develop in cup. Walkers our most dangerous player every week, and we've got Hopgood and de belin who can play lock
This ^^^^
Doesn't hurt to give him a shot right now. Even if we do sign someone, the experience for Joash will be good moving forward.
Brown has been a 5 or 6 out of 10 im the majority of games. He's head isn't in it
From Ryles during presser it sounds like we are not buying anyone soon ...
“And then obviously our spine was young tonight for periods there, but that’s where we’re going with the club.
“We’ve decided to take that approach and I’m really comfortable with it and I just need to get him on the field as often as possible for as long as I can and just get their lessons while they’re developing.”
Actually Ryles said wih a shrug and a shake of the head "He'll get the first oppurtunity and then we will see what it looks like moving forward.".
Something very telling was Ryles body language whilst saying it.
'To me Ryles has basically said Joash has an opportunity right now, this year with the remaining rounds. We will know in the next couple of weeks if Joash is up to it and Dylan will be secondary in considerations. Ryles quote "Our future is now" .
Ryles obviously wants to see the kid in the position now, this way we have 6 months to find another recruit to play 5/8. Someone say Doueihi.
'To me Ryles was diplomatic in an attempt to encourage Joash and support his players, but to me Ryles dosnt think Joash is our 5/8 answer full stop. Ryles has been left holding the bag so to speak, in recent weeks we have targeted Sandon Smith and Galvin, that shows Joash is a fall back position because we can't sign an established 5/8 or one with more potential then Joash.
Joash played Dummy half as a youngster and got decent experience / exposure at fullback, centre and wing. The kid shouts versatility, I see his real position as cover for a backline, not first choice First grade NRL 5/8.
The next couple of weeks will be very telling. Good luck Joash.
With Moses return this weekend JR should keep Joash at 5/8 until the end of the sesaon, run both hookers De Silva & Smith. As for Dyland Brown why not play him a centre?
Parra's backline would be
FB Iongi
Wings Fox & Lomax
Centres Simomsson & D Brown
I don't see Joash as a 6.
If I'm building a team from scratch a 5/8 has to have some semblance of a first grade kicking game.
Weve got young inexperienced hookers and a fullback I fail to see how you'd entertain the idea of an inexperienced 5/8 .
Thats a lot of pressure on Moses who struggles to string games together or Hawkins his replacement.
If we've identified a player in our system who we've earmarked for 5/8 surely we go to market for a stop gap experienced footballer that has a kicking game, is a strong defender and can play a number of positions until the kid develops.
Sounds like Doueihi.
If we haven't got a player in our system , a ready to go 5/8 we have to enter the playing market.
Im not sure what Ryles has in mind, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but playing Joash in the halves with little experience combined with our slow starts to halves particularly the start of games is a major concern.
