NRL head of football Graham Annesley has admitted an error from the officials in the first match of the season. He says the challenge by the Eels in the last 5 minutes should've been successful.

So nothing changes from last year -!the mandatory weekly mea culpa.
It's funny how when the result goes in our favour, even like the smallest thing, ( a forward pass etc )
the opposing club gets a public apology
Planting the ball early should have been addressed years ago, what took them so long. It was always a toss of the coin which way the penalty would go but hopefully now the refs can find a bit more consistency
I also found the other issue interesting. Are they finally going to let the defence get to Cleary?
It was never a toss of the coin. Ball is planted on the ground before the Storm player even begins to get on his feet. Whatever happens then is not relevant- penalty to Parra and maybe a different result.
Read my post again, I'm not talking about Thursday nights decision
Players should never have been allowed to place the ball on the ground before they're on their feet
Exactly! And walking of the mark!
What a laugh, he goes on about how the blockers are not allowed to block defenders trying to get to the kicker, and that everyone is onto it these days, but when was the last time you saw anyone penalised for something like that?
So true dat.
There'll probably be a few penalties in the next few weeks now that Annesley spoke about it, then when the season hots up never to be blown again
What a surprise the Eels getting shafted they got bad calls all night
I never expect to get calls like that as an eels fan. More to the point the ruck officiating or lack thereof by Klein was diabolical. It was the only thing keeping the Storm in the contest.
