PHIL GOULD HAS AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT.....ON THE REFS

I just watched the replay again and after reading the report from Harrigan I can see the argument they make....BUT

I think that they're really worrying signs for the future. Any way you look at it that was a massive call, at a massive moment, and i think it was because of .....

PHIL GOULD

That guy gets to spruke on endlessly on whatever he wants whenever he wants and everyone listens. The last thing a ref will want to do is piss him off.

With his media duties he's exempt from the usual penalties that apply to coaches for ref scrutiny, and with access to all the right channels he has every opportunity to either promote or criticise the actions of a ref, a call, a touchy, a rule....every single week.

Watch for the Panthers to be getting lots of 50-50 calls go they're way next year (and, as we've already seen - the rest of this one).

I think the NRL need to address this issue before it starts. It will be a hard one to manage.

"Even if our club has identified Cobbo as a target, when other clubs are competing for that talent, history indicates we have little to no chance of signing him. Our attempts at negotiation and closing contracts is horrific."
