Just watched the 9 news, Sterlo's comments post decision.

Well, I was wrong with Sharp, so it seems as he has know for some time, so a goodly number of porkies over the time.

Greenburg said the cap breaches have occurred for 5 of the past 6 years, goes as we would all know it predates Sharp & co. Nothing surprising in that except we are over the cap this year by around $750K, with Morgan gone to Storm, likely drops around $25K off this year & next. Watmough will be the big one that would likely release the full remaining amount.  This is reliant on the insurance I would guess.

News said that BA is in working on things,  I would say that means he would have to have the contract amounts & who the club can release, BIG QUESTION, is who can they release without still having to pay them for whats left on their contract?  Unless as I see it they are picked up by other clubs for the full amount its not going to be easy without the Watmough retirement.

We can start earning points as soon as we are cap compliant, longer we take to be compliant the points decision means we can lose more points.

The club has 5-7 days to respond.  Of those who will be deregistered, includes Sharp, & Daniel Anderson, other board members besides Gerard & Garrard, also are gone.

The $1m fine will be reduced by $250K based upon the fast tracking of the PWC reccomendations of last year.

Greenburg said the NRL will assist in the areas of need, meaning, I guess on getting the club back to a running position with a functioning board.

In the end, there are still areas that are really quite vague especially as to how assistance along with getting people into the vital positions, more especially I would think to be the football club head of operations along with an interim board for the Football club.

I imagine that the current mob may be able to stay on as Leagues club directors until new board is elected, although the two left will have to take over a huge task in the interim.

Bottom line for points to start, for our next game is the cap issues fixed & the other fine print such as the 5 to be gone & a start on the governant reforms

    • Very true Tad, but as I am asking where do we get integrity?

Sterlo in answer to being on the board or other said no, I am not qualified.  I think he would be a good stand in perhaps in replacing DA.

  • We are over by $570k this year not $750k.
    • What I heard said was 750, other reports certainly show its the lower amount.

The hard part is, as I said above how do we get under that amount as other clubs may want to vulture the team fir the choice parts, but want them on minimal money & we still have to pay in part.  If Watmough is able to medically retire that's another kettle of fish as Morgan has already signed with Storm.

Other 1 year players would be on next to nothing really as they are all pretty well playing for contracts.

    • I watched the media conference Todd Greenburg from he's own mouth said we are over by $570k this year.
    • All good mate.
  • Did he mention specifically how the amount for this year was made up? Was most of it dodgy TPAs that we've been now forced to include.
Did anyone ask why they didn't investigate this years cap at the top of their investigation and told us then of their concerns re our projected position?
Geez we may have lost less points and been forewarned of pay cuts needed if they had of pulled their fingers out.
    • Macy, problem was that Greenburg & Weekes sat down at a press conference with Greenburg reading from a script, then open for questions, there was 2 questions, which I could not pick up what they were, one of them had Greenburg reply that it was up to Parramatta. Then the news went off.

Since then, the media (news.com) have published some things from the conference that I certainly did not get from Greenburg in his initial live televised segment, & that was the higher $1.25M fine, I heard him say $1m, with a $250K reduction, other thing was I did not hear him mention the stripping of the 9's trophy.

What also was on show was the players had turned up with Greenburg, Weekes, Gerard & Garrard going into the players facilities & they addressed the players & Coaches, then the players left, so gather training was called off as Brad & coaches likely had to start the roster examination along probably having some words with who was left of the board.

    • Good call. Tad, & I think we all would hold a similar view

  • What Greenburg repeated a number of times was that we need to be compliant.....

    "...like everyone of their counterparts..."

    "...like the other fifteen clubs..."

Also he stated that "This is the most comprehensive examination of a salary cap breach ever undertaken..." or words to that effect.

I was screaming at the screen hoping someone would ask the question "How can you be certain the other 15 clubs are compliant, particularly if you haven't yet shone the forensic torch on them the way you have at Parramatta?"  Unfortunately none of the journo's heard me.

    • & we could not hear what other questions were asked & the answers to them. The small window reading the decision & then the question time was cut off, so how many questions were asked, need to know all the questions & answers.
