Ludicrously expensive sneakers

My teenage son just blew all of the money he's been saving on a pair of $400 sneakers.

More amazing was that they actually retail for nearly double that he just happened to luck out finding a cheap pair in his size online.

When did $800 sneakers become a thing?

Why do kids want sneakers that look like spaceships?

How can I get into this business?

    • Very possibly...

  • They obviously have rockets in them. I saw those in cartoons in the 1970s.

  • I could have got it for him for $50 ;)

  • I do a fair bit of running so I've bought quite a few pairs of shoes. Hoka's are the go I reckon - very comfy, like running on marshmellows it said in a review I once read. Never spent $400 though, a bit over half that is my limit.

  • In my day we didn't have sneakers, we would find two week old road kill roos scrape em off the road and tie them to our feet with rusty fencin wire.

  • My brother regularly buys Yeezy sneakers, which are released by Kanye West, he then resells them for at least 3-4 times more than he bought them for because they are all limited releases. He has on occasion got $3000 for sneakers he spent $200-300 on. I dont understand it personally, but good on him for finding a way to profit from it I guess.

      • Then there are lots of rich kids with indulgent parents that want all the gimmicks, the more expensive the better it must be.

    • This is what he bought, actually! I can be glad then he didn't pay $3000!

      • Haha, did he buy them off a guy in Sydney? Be a bit funny if it was ends up being my brother :)
