Will Moses be in Origin 2 & Should He?

Just wondering what other Eels fans are thinking about Mitchell Moses possibly being selected by Coach Daley for Origin 2. I personally don't think he should be selected because of his injuries and also his form this year hasn't been the greatest.

I think it's more important he gets himself 100% fit and spends more time on the field for Parra the Origin. It seems everytime he plays in Origin he either picks up some injury or aggravates current injuries that sidelines him for Parra matches.

What do others on here think?

  • None of us think he should be selected

  • Why play for parra when they've done nothing for him the past 3 years, he's been wanting a competitive side not a side of waiting to see who breaks through. Man I thought people would have figured it out by now. Poor bloke plays better than anyone but because we have a crop that don't see the game as fast he does he has to play to the level of them hence why he's game at parra sucks as of late.

  • According to the site's Recruitment & Retention Experts, if the club is not actively aiming to sign representative-level players, and doing so successfully more than unsuccessfully, sack the entire R&R Team.

In other news, the Parramatta Eels halfback has been killing it at a origin level, was taken away on the kangaroo tour as backup halfback, but on the site it's a negative that he is constantly in the frame for rep honours.

No amount of "sh*t it's unfortunate he is injury prone the past few years" can undo the crazy incoherence of those two positions.

    • So I gather you are happy with his injuries post Origin on every occasion he has played. Yes granted rep level honours is important for a player and for his NRL clubs squad development too.   However at 32 years of age and his inability to play a consistent number of games for Parramatta these last three years is OK with you ?.  What tangable positives has Parramatta got for his Origin experiences ?

Recruitment help well No Lomax left.   Bringing extra skills back to help the team at an NRL level ?

the jury is out...   there is no negatives with Rep honours if that translates to his NRL team ....what has the team got out of it ....20 games from Mitch  in the last 3 years

      • Well said and it's evident that Moses tends to return from Origin duties either with a new injury or exasperating previous injuries which sees him miss lots of club games and as the club doesn't really have great back up utility players it definitely affects the Eels games. I mean why are players recruited for Parra? Is it to improve the Eels potential to break a 40 year premiership drought or to get them into Origin Selection?

      • Parra G, did I state any happiness about Moses' injuries in and around Origin season? No, I didn't. Instead, my point remains: we can be very unhappy about injuries, but to extend out to Rep selection being problematic simply opens up a series of incoherences in the broader recruitment and retention discussions on the site.

Consider, for instance, the fair point that without Rep stars the Eels might struggle to attract Rep stars. We address that by calling for our biggest Rep star to withdraw from Origin contention?

Maybe we can switch the question around, from whether Moses should skip Origin to give 100% to the Eels, to whether the Eels are giving Moses 100%? Are we forcing Moses to overplay, not his hands, but his lower body? Constant leg issues and yet Moses is regularly forced to kick the skin off the ball?

I'll be explicit: Moses getting injured sucks, but having a #7 constantly getting selected at Rep level is a bonus the Eels should not want to give up.

  • NO.If he doesnt play on Monday then he doesnt play origin.  How can our club be happy that he is focusing on his fitness for Origin.  Further if he is then out after Origin then that stinks and poor poor form from Moses.

    • If medical team fail him, then pass him for Origin not much we can do. NSW would have their own doctors to test him out. If Moses chooses to play our hands are tied.

Many say "Just tell him he is not playing". We can do that but he has every right to tell us to get lost and play.

Let's be fair, many of us here if we had the chance to make $30k playing for NSW, regardless of our prep we are playing, let's not kid ourselves.

I don't want him playing but i see it as not much we can do.

  • Will he be picked? Yes.

Should he be picked? Yes he is one of the best halves in comp so it makes sesne, with some doubt over the preparation for him missing 3 weeks.

Do i want him picked? No.

    • Bingo! Spot on LB.

If he's fit he'll be picked and he absolutely deserves to be.

Like every single club we want our best players playing for us week in week out still. I'm thrilled for Moses when he's picked, and sad for our team. 😁
