Why doubt Ryles ?

Lot of fans are upset with the one year Pezet deal, and I understand that. But let's look at the calls Ryles has made since joining the club.

Gutho and RCG getting moved on immediately got some backlash as well, big call but Ryles was correct. Lot of people didn't like this at the time.

Brought in his own group of players that fit the system he wants to play, might not be big names but they fit the style. Jack Williams Dylan Walker types.

Sean Russell the most hated eel on the roster. Ryles has given him the confidence to be a starter. He's taken that and run with it.

Give this loan with Pezet thing a chance and let's see what else happens around that before throwing all the toys out of the cot.

    • cooper cronk did well at the roosters

      • Pezet is no Cooper Cronk

        • we dont know that YET

  • Eli, yes.

I’ll admit, I was against this loan deal, initially. But the bottom line is that Ryles knows Pezet and what we need better than any of us sideline-quarter-backs. He’s got the full support of the club & the club his. That's what I care about the most. Ryles has shown plenty of positive signs in his first year, so I'm backing him.

Even some journos, whose livelihoods usually depend on negative, shock-jock click-bait, are being more level-headed than most of our own fan base right now. Meanwhile, we're working ourselves into a frenzy for free.

It’s like Groundhog Day on a broken record player. Every cycle, the same outrage, the same poo-throwing. If insanity really is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, we don’t need to look too far for the warning signs.

Yes, politically and optically it looks like a fan-relations disaster. It's bold. But unlike most of us, even journos get why the club is doing this. Strategically, it makes sense, just quietly.

    • Just like any fan base we all look for any negatives in any transaction. If Pezet had been signed long term and we lose 2-3 juniors it would also lead to negative reactions. If pezet was a horrible fit next to Moses and he's stuck here for 4 years that would also be bad. Always two sides to any equation

      • Exactly, Eli. That's one problem. We'd likely lose some promising juniors. History shows that.

The other is fit. Although Ryles loves Pezet and is close to him, Pezet wants to be a seven and won't wait another four years for Moses or Hughes.

They're some of the reasons the club didn't end up offering a formal long-term deal.

Short-term benefits of winning, whilst maintaining current long-term pathways and development strategies.

HOE, some great points as usual, and definitely, Ryles deserves trust - he has made some big calls already, and knows a lot more about what he needs than any of us do.

But he hasn't achieved enough yet, imo, to not be questioned when he backflips on his own mantra.

A mantra that impacted this teams ability to win games in 2025 for long term investment, something he has now completely flipped on for 2026.

We benched Brown, a player who had given this club a lot of footy & was apparently very good behind the scenes, yet, we are giving a rookie halfback the 5/8th jersey when he is choosing the Eels as a stepping stone?

          Would Penrith do this? Storm?

I 100% get where you are coming from, but, not sure this is the 'same outrage & poo throwing’ as usual?

Many of the Eels fan base who can't understand this deal, are optimistic & level-headed members of the site, who often see the positives & often defend the clubs decisions.

Many of us congratulated the club a lot for signings like Iongi, Katounga, JAC, Smith etc last year.

But, this one feels different, and maybe thats based on previous R&R performance, rather than this signing in insolation.

Spine players aren’t bench forwards. They can’t always just come in and make an immediate impact, especially rookies?

This theory that Pezet makes us so much more successful than the side who were top 4 defensively in the last 4-6 weeks of 2025, Im struggling to see as definitive? I guess, im not as sold on Pezet as yourself or Eli.

But, Ryles thinks so, so you guys are spot on, he has earned some trust.

One thing we do know for sure is it will take Pezet time to get into our system, time to work on combinations with his edges & other spine members, time to work in defensively, and time to find his feet here.

Which is 100% understandable, but with one season to benefit from this, we’ll have to hope it’s fast-tracked - or he can help lead this team into the finals with Moses.

Really hope you are guys are right, respect your opinions & love your positivity, hope to be wrong.

    • If it wasn't for poo slinging this site would be as dead as TCT 😂😂

That's what unicorning does to a site

      • I mean, it's not not like we are slinging shit at an oil painting....The club may as well have a "Poop Deposit" chute in the front door so we can dump on them directly

    • "The Journos" being all for this is part of what stinks. Good Buddyguys
