My number 1 pick without a doubt is Brad Fittler who the eels came within a whisker of signing on two occasions. First was in 1989 and then again in 2000 , had he come in 2000 the eels would of 1000% won a comp .
My 2 3 and 4 picks are Gene Miles , Wally Lewis and Greg Dowling back in 1987 , they were all set to join the eels until the Broncos swooped with bigger offers.
Out of all the players the eels have either lost or let go over the last 30 + years I can't think of anyone who had the talent or leadership that would of changed the course of the club.

Matterson would’ve been our captain
I think we have the worst recruitment in the league. The Tigers have the worst retention. They've basically lost a rep team worth of players in the last 5-6 years. The Panthers should have done better with their juniors all these years.
Tigers have lost:
James Tedesco
Addo- Carr
Woods
Moses
Andrew Fifita
Our Nathan Brown
to name a few off memory.
Worst recruitment? Seen the Titans of late?
Parra since '87 :)
taupau
BTW..How on earth woul have we fitted Lewis when we had Kenny? Kenny to centres? Miles was also a centre. Where we're going to push Steve Ella out? I really don't recall going after any of them at the time.
Wally would of played Lock .
The crow gone lol
Steve Menzies is one. Not sure if close or one of those urban myths but Darren Lockyer could have been a eel but Brua Smith said he was too small
Cheers.
