Not at all I think there's still big question marks in the spine you don't know what you have at hooker just yet and 6 flip a coin we are going to have another 6 the third one in 3 years.
Regardless this teams high tide IMO as constructed is a top 8 side and that's bout it.I don't see a premiership side this year I didn't before the year started and nothings changed. All I'm seeing right now is more questions than definitive answers.3 games in and we still haven't been able to put 40 minute performance together let alone an 80 minute one.
Recruitment is going to be key for this team going foward.
Our spine is settled except 6. I don't think Penrith would be 100% happy with Tulagi at 6. Brisbane and Warriors are trying to fit 3 halves into 2. Melbourne would be the most settled spine tbh. You expect Moses, Ryley and Iongi will just get better as the season goes on. For me Pezet is doing enough in attack but he really needs to fix his defence. If he can fix that fast and we get our forward rotations right ( I think Ryles is still tinkering with his forward rotations because of the way the game is being refereed) I reckon we have a damn good side there. I see what you mean about the 6 position being an issue but that is next years problem atm. Ryles is smart, Ryles has a unique style, Ryles is innovative and he is a bloody good coach. I believe he can get this squad playing a unique brand of football where anything is possible. Need to fix a few fundamentals atm that you rightly point out.
You realise Guymer played out of position right?
Agreed LB, out of all our young forwards with the variations in the performances (Taiviti aside) I think Guymer is the most consistent in terms of performance, i say that because others have higher planes but Guymer is very trustworthy in his undertakings.
LB you are obviously right in him playing out of position, but I thought it was a clever move on Ryles part, Guymer played in the centres a few years back (captained a winning side from that position as well), obviously heavier slower now, a genuine middle but having that centre experience enabled him to position himself and also mark Suli front on, who was causing some damage.
I had no issues with Guymer playing Centre and honestly felt he did fine. Was not a liability at all. Though me saying he was playing out of position must give him grace in the eyes of others as if you put Moses at Fullback you are going to get a not so good performance. Put Paulo on an edge, same result. Iongi at Hooker. You cannot compared Guymer and de Belin in form at the moment when the only position Guymer has played this year is Centre, a postion he has not played since SG Ball i believe.
But you are right, you know what you are getting from Charlie. He will miss some tackles, he wont make a lot of metres but he will give 100%, his first contact can be good, his defence can be reliable and he will get a quick play the ball out of him. Also can play middle and edge in a pinch.
I think his line speed is ok as well, he also seems to find himself in a handy position when there is a loose ball around close to the line.
Earlier prior to season starting and thinking that Lomax was still an Eel and the way they finished last year and the upbeat about Pezet signing I was thinking a definite top 8 maybe top 6 but now that Lomax has gone Pezet not being below average, Hopgood out for the year I'm leaning more towards the Eels finishing bottom 4 actually worse than last year maybe best same as last year
We are not a top 4 team. PVL ball 2.0 throws so many uncertainties. I can see us finishing anywhere between 5th and last.
With a little lucky we climb higher than last year, I'm guessing 8-9th. We've started much better than last year, so why shouldn't we be giving the 8 a nudge?
Rationale
If we keep our velocity, have some luck with injuries, I think we finish just inside the 8, fighting it out with Sharks, Souths, and Dolphins.
