Where do we see the EELS finishing?

Just eager to see where everyone thinks we will place on the table come season end?As of now, I have us between 6th-10th, just depending on injuries and how much our middle defence improves throughout the year. Another factor is if we unearth some youngsters like brown and how they impact the team. However, if we somehow snag a result this week against Penrith we will be sitting at 3 wins and 1 losses, which is remarkable considering we would have versed the best 3 teams, all away from home.

        • I just don't think we are fighting spoon as long as Moses is playing. Can we be on the edge of bottom 4? Yes of course, but spoon? Come on.

      • I'm hoping we finish 1st. I answered it based on our history and what i have seen of all the teams so far this year.

  • Strong attack but almost non existant defence, if our defence doesnt improve through the year we will be around 7-10th range i reckon.

  • I stand by early prediction of 6-10th from before season.  The 6 agains and speed of game is ridiculous and caught a few teams off guard.  Teams are also adjusting to new bench rules and Ryles was found out with poor tactical decision in round 1 putting Joash as the 3rd small player from bench on field.

We are 1 of the sides struggling especially in the middle but that will improve.  Ryles won't keep trying to do the same thing and expect a different result like BA did.  He has already dropped and changed players and we have more depth this year.  TDS stepped up when Ryley had a bad game.  Moses has been poor in attack but Pezet has delivered points even if luck was involved, he got it done.

Teacum Brown was great in trials so hopefully he gets a shot soon and Moretti still hasn't played.  Injuries haven't really caused much trouble yet but mid season some teams will struggle with depth, it is a long season and we banked early wins we didn't expect so are sitting better than this time last year.

The best thing I noticed about Parra this year is we look more dangerous in attack across the park.  If we are down we can come back. If we are down by 1 try in last 10mins I believe our attack could win it, but previous years teams knew where and how Parra would attack and shut us down easily.

It is interesting that media putting pressure on Penrith regarding 6 agains early in the count this week.  They are 1 of most penalised with 6 agains with 18 of 22 coming in first or 2nd tackle.  Other teams will copy this including Parra and pressure will be on refs to maybe find a few later 6 agains to even the stat out for Penrith.  Refs are definitely influenced by media pressure and patterns that are identified.  After it was noted last week refs were mandated to stamp their authority in first 15mins we previously saw massive 6 agains in first 2 rounds before slight easing last week.  Hopefully this attention on 6 agains is noted by refs and warnings given for repeated y against early in the count.

I do worry about obstruction of kick chaser calls this week though for players getting back to support Iongi after so much talk about Parra defenders.  It will cost us a few penalties as refs try to clamp down.

  • I see us 5th to 8th - I feel Pezert will improve - seems very much a confidence player, and has come into a new system.   Teacum needs some minutes and hopefully Moretti gets some game time this week too as I always had him ahead of Dorey, but Dorey has played well so far.   If Mitch misses footy like he has the previous two years, probs missing the 8.   I would agree to move BS into the centres and have Kelly on the wing this week, at least he only has defend inside.  Doubtful we win against Riff this week, but we need a good showing for both us and a show to the next three teams we have upcoming which I believe we have a good shot at winning

  • Unless our middles improve, I don't see us making the Top 8.
