The Way Forward

The rest of this year presents our club with an almighty challenge. Make no mistake, these will not be easy times. However, we are still looking at real positives to come out of the darkness.Firstly, a line has been drawn in the sand. The message has been sent loud and clear by BA and the Parra club to all those players and managers who would try to hold our club to ransom. Those times are over.BA said it clearly in the media, if you don't want to play for our club (reads also as "and put in") then we have no place for you.Believe me, player managers have held far too much power in recent years and times are changing. In the past they have forced Parra to pay overs. This will no longer happen. Unless you are a marquee player, you will be offered a realistic contract.Secondly, a new toughness has been instilled in the players. The role models are setting the standard. We have a string of first graders who have been leading the way with this toughness and desire. Watmough and Wicks have been playing busted for weeks. They've taught the younger blokes what it means to be first grade footballers. How many of us would have guessed how busted these blokes were? There are many things that go on within a footy club that we are not privy to. In most cases we should not be. What I can assure fellow supporters of is that Brad Arthur is filling our playing ranks with blokes who want to wear the jersey, blokes who want an opportunity and blokes who are professional in their approach to being a footballer. This will set our club up for the future. Not just for a better year next year, but for better years to come with a culture that befits a successful club. The next few weeks will be difficult for many supporters. We will see team lists that we may not be happy with. The media will probably jump on any opportunity to rubbish our team. We need to understand that there are extreme limitations placed on who we are allowed to select and who can be expected to play a role at this time of year.Rest assured, the players and staff are approaching every game with the intent and desire to win.

  • The light at the end of the tunnel (the tunnel will be complete in November 2015) is shining so bright it is burning retinas! All the shite of the past has been excavated and removed and a fresh highway with reinforced steel is ready for the Parramatta Eels to rumble down.

    Good times ahead.

    • Absolutely Bert. Succinct and brilliantly spot on response.
  • Yep am looking forward to good times ahead. A coach with parra in his heart, no walkover, committed long term and not a stop over, picking players with passion and heart.
    • Absolutely. Parra bloke through and through.
  • Cheers Nonna

  • Spot on sixties if your not willing to bleed for the jumper and the supporters then don't bother joining our club and for those players already here who come under that catagory piss off

    • We have had blokes absolutely busting their guts playing injured this year. Some still will be. I'm amazed at Chocs toughness and dedication to a club he's just joined. Unbelievable stuff.
  • great blog sixties totally agree good times are ahead. This year was always going to be hard loosing Hayne before the start to the season and then the issues with management. But I have absolute faith in our coach BA.He is slowly building a football team that is a year or two will be a real force. It takes time to rebuild a team and its culture but this man will lead us to a great era.

Its a great shame this year that the salary cap denies us using some of the young guys that we have in the lower grades. The salary cap was designed to restrict rich clubs buying all of the talent, it was not designed to deny clubs blooding up and coming junior players. Its time that the cap needs scrapping and a new system put in.In the eighties there was a system where a club could use (I think) about 13 imported players but the rest had to be from the junior ranks.I think this would be a much better system.

But dont give up guys we are going to be in for some good years under BA

    • Cheers mate. Even without Hayne this year we were on track to finish borderline finals. Then we have the mess from the injuries and cap as well as the name that shan't be mentioned. This is the club moving forward.
