The Moses sprays

Whats peoples thoughts on the Moses sprays at TDS?
seeing alot of public posts they were over the top etc

For me, its a mans game, he farked up so yes justified, regardless how raw or young he is. Moses is the controllling half and captain, TDS needs to learn.

  • Didn't see anything wrong with it. Moses is captain and has every right to put some players into line and it's not as if he can run up and whisper in his ear. TDS did some dumb things and not only once

  • Happens all time in the nfl.. Im sure Moses will go up to Taylan at training and he'll understand the situation.   Moses said he's young learning after the match

  • I have no issues with it , he didn't call him " a dumb khunt " like Queen Flufferson did , nor was Mitch making a big bunch of errors on the night , like Queen Flufferson was .

in saying that , I'd hope Mitch may watch the replays and learn something from it .  I do think there could be a better approach , but I don't think his actions were all that unwarranted .

  • That spray was delicious, exactly how a captain and leader should react.

  • My opinion on this, one spray maybe even two were enough, sometimes you need to walk up to them calmly and tell them what you really think and need from them. This generation are a different breed. They get emotional so quickly, with the added pressure of the game his brain would having been spinning million miles per hour.

    • Analyst, you're onto something there. As fans, we like it because we get just as worked up as Moses was and want to throw the shoe at the TV at times. That'll work.

The thing is, Moses 3-4 sprays on Da Silva are probably not a problem. At all. At least not yet.

But there's an old saying among players: "A coach only has a few sprays a year before they start to lose their effectiveness." Can’t remember exactly who said that. Cooper Cronk or Matty Johns, but it rings true. Just ask Madge and his baseball bat.

While captains aren’t coaches, they sit in positions of power. They’re the bridge between the coach and the squad, the public face of the team and club. Their example carries weight. It matters.

Sure, a spray can work in the short term. Hasler’s recent shower spray seemed to have an impact. The Titans beat the Warriors and followed it with two narrow, admirable losses to the Panthers & Souths.

Spray advocates often point to Ray Price. It worked for him and the Eels". Sure. But who did Jack Gibson make captain? Stephen Edge. A steadying influence. Calmer temperament. Price was the enforcer, but Edge was the glue.

Also, when you have a side stacked with Origin and international stars like the Eels of the 80s, do they need 3-4 sprays every game? Now picture Price captaining the current Eels side? 60 errors in four games. He'd probably put Da Silva in a box.

Edge’s calmer temperament mirrors what we see in today’s top teams. Harry Grant, Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo. Calm heads. Cameron Smith is another perfect example. He kept his impulses in check setting a standard for the team and club. He was also a referee and would offer playing golf with them

If a captain has to bash with the stick constantly, that’s likely to be a weak long-term strategy. Players should be self-driven. As Matt Cameron puts it, "We don’t keep players that need too much teaching."

Studies of some of the greatest teams in history show a common thread. It’s not necessarily about the best players, the best coach, or richest club that makes the greatest teams. The common thread was actually a great captain who puts ego aside and backs his team to the hilt. Does anything for the team, even if no one notices.

I suspect that's why our leadership group includes the likes of Williams, Paulo, and Hopgood. Calm heads. Walker is another who seems to fit in that mould. They don't always get the raps, but they do the little things for the team.

The other thing to consider is one-size-doesn't-fit-all. Even Craig Bellamy, the king of sprays, admits he doesn’t fire up at everyone because it doesn’t work for everyone, whether that's due to temperament or culture.

And that’s the point. If Moses lets competitiveness push him into constant confrontations, he risks eroding trust with some. Captain Grumpy might win a few battles, but he could lose the war. History suggests restraint lasts longer than rage.

Should we worry about Moses? Probably not. I admit his temperament worried me before his promotion. But he's the General of our team. Also, after the game, Mitch Moses offered a small olive branch to Da Silva, saying he would “learn” from those moments. He also said he "loves" Da Silva. All good signs. I think its likely Moses will evolve as a Captain. He has to.

  • Crucial errors close to the end of the match that took the ball away from a guy who has won an Origin series at Suncorp. Deserved the bake. Moses was marshalling that side around the park really well and you can't try to play hero ball. TDS will be better for it.

  • Have a spoonful of cement and toughen up. He stuffed up and copped an earful. Move on and improve next week. His lucky it didnt cost us the game. Imagine the backlash from the fans and commentators if it did. If anything he should be thanking Moses for pulling him up on it.

"Correct , when he tells the captain it's going up for a strip and then sends it up as something totally different, then it should be classed as non conclusive .  Moses may have not used his challenge had he have known it was going up as a ruck…"
