The making of a player

Now I've been against Russell playing first grade, his had moments, BUT that game against the Broncos was a 5 star performance especially marking up against Stagg. That try he scored may well have be a fluke but still needed to execute it, his defence all game and his running mtrs were outstanding. Maybe he did need 50/60 first grade games as some do to realise they belong in the top grade. Whatever happens his confidence will be sky high, and I for one am happy and cheering for him.

          • You clueless fool..stop posting FFS the membership numbers to this site are plummeting due to your ridiculously footy IQ.

Hello?? Anyone home,?? Lol ..its called a youth policy you dope and getting versatility back into the squad.

            • Ya think but at some point you have to go with settled combinations clown 🤡 and hence why a guy like Russell improves because the combinations are settled and aren't changed out every other week.

Footy IQ don't make me laugh what exactly have you come up with again. The youth movement 😂 is that it your quote of he year eaaaawwww donkey.

  • Very happy with his performance against a top quality player. Hopefully this is his next level and can string a few games together

  • 100% agree with that. He put some pretty big shots on Staggs and kept him quiet most of the game. He's also averaging over 100 running metres per game over the last 3-4 weeks and makes around 20 tackles per game with very few misses. Let's hope you're right about the 5/60 games, it'll be interesting to see if he can take it to another level with the confidence he takes out of that game.

  • He's been steadily improving and I didn't realise he's still only 23. He's definitely been putting in the work and I was mainly concerned with his attacking output. He seemed incapable of positioning and passing to his outside man, but that may be just a case of still learning the position given he came through the grades as a fullback and winger. He's physically up for the challenge of first grade. He did a great job on Staggs. I was surprised he was picked over Simonsson. Long term I reckon Russell becomes a Ben Smith style player. Physically tough defender, carts the ball well and eventually shifts into the back row.

    • Sean has taken big strides forward this year and deserves his spot at centre inside the Fox. He's surprised me in his defence and is very dependable.

With the ball he takes it to the big boys and doesn't flinch....and doesn't get monstered any longer.

Finally he makes good passes to his winger, (wondered when he'd get it,) and now he'll be seen working on his chip and chase at training.

    • I think his positioning and passing has a lot to do with him getting early and quality ball, which he hasn't really been getting much of because of our inexperienced halves combinations this year. Once we get the halves settled, then we should see some better football from him.
