taking the knee

I'm a bit hesitant posting this here knowing the replies I've received in the past about my views. I'm slammed for thinking 'political' issues have a place in sport, especially it seems in rugby league. Well I was happy to see the players and referees form a united circle and take the knee for all the black deaths in custody. It has happened in all the games so far and Fergo led it for us.

NFL players are using their profiles to take a stand too as are many, many other sporting codes across the globe.

You can't separate sport from society as sport is a major part of society. Not many other things brings groups of people together on a weekly basis. People who can't handle that are people like Trump who can't control the big platform the codes have .... as much as he tries.

  • The problem I have with it is that it is Amercan. Can't we be a bit more ingenious than that? The issues we face in Australia are vastly different to those in America.

    • I hear you mate, but the tragic incident in America was the catalyst for much bigger issues across the globe. Aboriginal deaths in custody is a real thing has been for a long time. Sadly, racism still infects our country.

      • Are they going to take the knee for the 70% of Indigenous assaults & deaths inflicted by family members ?

        • More than 1 person a week dies in Australia from domestic family disputes. These are not all indigenous related. In fact, domestic violence increases in both Queensland and NSW when their team loses in the State of Origin.

Blaming others is just ignorant people who don't acknowledge the problem.

          • No, but the loss of Indigenous lives due to domestic violence far exceeds the loss of Indigenous life in custody by a very large margin. That is not meant to minimise the loss of Indigenous lives in custody in any way, merely that domestic violence in Indigenous communities is a far more pressing problem, but it's not as sexy a headline as racist cops.

The rate of domestic violence within Indigenous communities is far greater than in non Indigenous communities. This is well established by the ABS and by Indigenous leaders like Jacinta Price & Noel Pearson who have lived & worked on the frontlines and have far greater experience & knowledge on the matter than any collection of elitest, inner city, virtue signaling progressives.

Just as an aside, the stats are similar in African American communities in the US.

            • There is no doubt the indigenous community have their own problems just like most other communities. It doesn't mean they should be treated any differently right? And that is where the problem lies. People have absolutely no idea what the aboriginal people go through (and have gone through) yet they feel they can talk justice on these matters. Always comparing and trying to find vindication to make themselves feel better while ignoring the real issue. The lack of empathy is staggering. The excuses mind blowing. We are taking about equal rights and human lives!

              • Eelsageme you make a very good point mate; and it can go for anyone who has lived through such issues; take the many, many thousands of migrants who lost thier land during wars for exmaple. Mate my old man left his country when he was 14 and moved here; he was faced with war and moved on. He was lucky to survive as were many others.....but guess what? they moved on and made for themselves a life, some better, some not. Its about choice in my view. Many migrants are grateful they have a country to here to start again - but they move on; work hard and make choices.

Go back centuries to the battles in the UK (Normandy etc. and the real invasions) and the other take overs the Poms had prior to British rule.....and while i am at it the Aboriginal people in our country have access to many services that others do not, and i acknowledge the issues in remote communities; however some wish to live their to be near their local land etc.

                • @Mitchy, I love hearing stories like that of your old man - migrants coming here to eventually live fulfilling lives in a new country they now call home. Its awesome.

But this country has always been home to the aboriginals. They have been here longer than all of us. So comparing a migrant story to that of the first land owners is many centuries of difference.

              • Maybe we should be thinking solutions for communities rather than race. Any community where there is very low emplyment and education will suffer regardless of race. And greater knowledge of aboriginal culture would to narrow the divide that exists.

              • No one is saying they should be treated differently, but if I choose to that's my business, not yours. Now for the record I don't, but I reserve the right to. But that's not the point.

The point is that Indigenous & African American people are killing themselves at record rates, and at rates far greater than any other race on the planet, but we don't care about that, we care about a few fringe lunatic racists. Now those few fringe, lunatic racists should be dealt with if they commit a crime, absolutely, but their is a far greater problem that is not being addressed by those protesters, because it is inconvenient, and they can't blame that most evil, vile, tyrannical creature .... the white, protestant, middle class man. He is the source of every kind of evil known to mankind.

Far more Indigenous men, women & children are assaulted &/or killed by their fellow Indigenous people than by racist white cops.

That's the real story, but it doesn't make you feel warm & fuzzy, does it ?
