State of Origin obsolete

Time to return the state of origin to NSW versus Queensland

It was brought in because the NSW comp was stronger and most good Queenslanders played in the NSW comp. State allegiance was comp based and NSW always flogged Queensland.

The current State of Origin rules for determining allegiance are complicated and full of loopholes and controversies.

It does not make sense that you can play for Australia but not a your state.

If you can be an Australian then you can be a NSWelshman

Time to return it to NSW versus Queensland. Allegiance to be determined the same way as if you can play for Australia.

  • Yep I agree. As I said in the other blog NSW vs QLD is the all star game they are looking for. Just make it what club you are playing for. Alternatively because there are less qld teams make it sydney based players vs out of sydney. If you class dragons as out of Sydney it matches 8 to 8 clubs
    • Fair split

But you need something worth fighting for
A sense of belonging and hating the other side
    • Agree but a lot of that concept is lost when you look at how qld has gamed the system. Inglis, k hunt even mat rogers whose father played for nsw. You can't tell me those nsw / OS born players feel the same 'pride' as Thurston etc. also do you think the SBWs, burgesses and semis wouldn't be feeling pride for their inclusion, which would after a few years develop into a legitimate all star game rather than the circus that is the current one? Those players who are excluded publicly express their desire to play in that game. When SOO started people said it was doomed to fail...
  • I doubt the simplification of allegiance rules would weaken their team

And the more stars playing the bigger the audience
  • If you can play for Aust you are eligible for SOO.

Well that's what it should be.

The hatred excuse is wrong because it's competetive spirit not hatred. These players played hard and shook hands after the game. Most of them now work along side each other. That's not hatred, if it was there'd be no handshake, no socialising, nothing.

The Pomms don't hate each other but put them in opposing sides and watch them beat the crap out of each other. Sam burgess' biggest onfield battles have been with English team mates.

It's competitness and all great footballers have it. Tallis is kidding himself if he thinks it hatred and only Qlders can have it again NSWmen.
  • Can't see why it's made so complicated?!
The NRL is a national competition. (Does that mean NZ is an Aussie state? Lol) Origin is the NRL showpiece.
Any NRL PLAYER playing for an Australian club should be able to play origin. Any NRL player born in NSW OR QLD should have to play for the state of there birth! If they don't want to then who needs the traitorous scum!
Anyone playing in Australia with permanent residency or citizenship not born in NSW or QLD should be able to chose which to play for, but once they have played for either state, they cannot change sides.. That seems easy and fair!
  • Yes too complicated at the moment. Make it simpler

"Exactly, why let him sit on the sideline or in Union, we get nothing out of it. At least get something in return. Not just anything but something pretty good."
