Sneaky ploy which makes Panthers defense so good.

Willie Mason is onto something. The Panthers give away a set restart on the first tackle if they lose the contact. They value getting their line set, and not allowing the opposition any momentum that they're prepared to give away a 6 again on the first tackle. Very clever.

  • That's why the six again rule sucks!!!

    • Six again is a total blight on the game and open for corruption

  • That's called a coach who understands the rules and how to exploit them.

Been saying this a lot but winning the initial collision sets up your attack and defense the latter especially if there outlawing the wrestle trying to make the game faster the first contact is everything you lose that in the initial first 2-3 tackles it brings the 6 again in because your on the back foot defending ruck speed.

Bodies lying on the deck is another sign it's why I mentioned Sam Moa in the pre season he's got to get our fowards and that first contact in order to keep the middle of the ruck secure.

  • The other point to note is that a ref who gives a 6 again on the first tackle is unlikely to give another one later in the set

  • Repeat sets are 99 times out of 100 for no reason at all but are at the will of the referee to control matches, choose which team has the momentum and who eventually wins! Any team could beat Penrith if the referee and bunker have their way! Games these days aren't always decided by the best team

  • The main reason they made it a full blown penalty for infringements inside a teams own 40m line was because of this. Teams deliberately giving a set restart on the first or second tackle to ensure they have control off the ruck.

  • There should be a warning then sin bin for a second offence.  Its cheating.  Its worse than being caught offside after a tap because its pre meditated.

Vlandys has to use the bin

And now there's a view that Parramatta is cheating by players placing themselves as blockers with both hands up acting like they are catchers lol

    • We are doing what we should be doing. Exploiting the rules to the letter of the rule. Our players are taking up a position early and abiding by the contesting rules by raising their arms. I'd love to hear a referee try to justify a penalty in this situation.

      • Even if they don't raise their arms I don't think it's a penalty because as you said they get into position very early
