I know its off topic but being off season i thought I'd get people's thoughts about smartwatches particularly for a fitness point of view but also the extra benefits included. So what do you think is a great smart watch for Android users in particular?
There are so many brands about at the moment its like a maze where you can easily get lost. So it would be great to read some recommendations of what smartwatch you currently have or have had and your thoughts.
I've looked at Garmin, Samsung, Polar, Ticwatch, Huawei, Suunto, Amazfit and others but very difficult to choose.

I've got a Garmin 725XT which I use just for running, I'm not a tech person so I probably don't use it to it's greatest potential. Actually now I think of it mine probably doesn't even fit the criteria of being a smartwatch - it's a few years old now but has bluetooth so if you want you can download your workouts onto the Garmin app, but I don't do that. All I need to know is pace and heart rate and my watch does those two things so I'm happy.
Garmin is supposed to be one of the best brands. I was looking at a few Garmins but they range from $500 up to $1200 depending what model. Does yours do music so you can listen while you run? I mainly want mine for similar reasons to you. Just not sure if to go with top or mid range.
Nah it doesn't do music, only time I listen to music is on the treadmill which isn't often because I hate it so I plug my iphone with spotify into the treadmill.
I bought my watch in 2017 so it's a bit of a dinosaur. I mainly use it to keep an eye on my heart rate - that's the main screen I have up. Yeah Garmin do some snazzy watches, very expensive though and a bit more than what I need.
Adam Remember when I wanted to buy a Cuckoo clock. Well, I finally got one all-hand made from a German master craftsman.Imported from Germany I went Baroque style. I am not a tech person either. You have to reset it manually every 8 days. No need to replace batteries
I've got to say mate that is a beautifully crafted clock. I sometimes look and marvel at the skill that these craftsmen have to be able to make something like that from wood they're very talented.
That’s lovely Tad, do you know how many hours were spent making it? That intricate carving must be so difficult to do.
Just looking at your vj walls - takes me back to the old Queenslander we renovated which had 12 foot ceilings. I spent many hours up and down the ladder.
Adam I love the classic built houses of yesteryear..particularly the ones with high ceilings. My next project is painting ceilings Thinking of doing something like this --hahaha
. Michelangelo painted these lying on his back on a scaffold. He sacked his helpers and did it on his own. One amazing character. They don,t do stuff like this anymore.
Tad, I'm surprised we haven't got a tune up from the geriatric brigade about hijacking blogs and straying off topic.
haha Adam I am trying to remain disciplined and stick to the technology of time..i have some technology that I struggle with. We pay for stuff we don,t fully utilise . Steve Hawkins said we are going into territory which will affect our DNA. It is already happening and going into a dehumanising territory.Who knows we may eventually evolve into being Robots who don,t see any value in smelling the roses
I just read a non-fiction called "Overcomplicated: Technology at the limitsof comprehension". It's premise is that we, humans that is, will lose basic understanding of the exact manner in which our tech functions. In last years toyota? for eg, the machine learning software for the fuel/air system was built to rewrite it's own algorithms, optimising efficiency. But all anyone actually knows about this machine code is that it works. It cannot be altered by humans as we no longer know which line of code does what and why. They just know it works better than any human written one. Many large corp do HR functions with Machine learning, without understanding biases in the the algorithms that they don't understand.
HOW? is going to become superflous when applied to even basic software.
"We must abandon the idea that we will understand the rules, and instead become field biologists for technology--relying on description and observation to uncover facts about how a system might work.". Quote from OTLC
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” Arthur c Clarke
