- The Finals Trigger: To automatically activate the fourth year of his contract (the 2028 season), Ryles' contract required specific performance-based results. It is understood these objectives were directly tied to playing in the finals during his first two seasons.
•Current Status: Because the Eels missed out on the finals—finishing 11th and 13th in his opening two years—the fourth year was not automatically triggered, technically making him a free agent after the upcoming season.
- Club Response: Despite the safe-guarding clause being active, Parramatta Eels management and Chairman Matthew Beach have confirmed they are incredibly happy with Ryles' performance and roster rebuild. The club views him as their long-term coach and has already proactively entered contract extension talks to keep him well beyond the original expiration date
• He Becomes a True Free Agent: The unfulfilled trigger means his guaranteed contract formally expires at the end of 2027. He would not be "walking out" or breaking a contract; he would simply be a free agent finishing his agreed-upon term.
• The Power Dynamic Shifts: Usually, a club-favour option means the club can decide whether to keep the coach or fire them without a massive payout. However, because the extension didn't lock in automatically, Ryles is under no legal obligation to sign a new deal. If a rival club offered him a massive deal for 2028, he could accept it.
• Why Parramatta is Rushing to Extend: This exact risk is why Parramatta management has already aggressively opened formal contract extension talks. The Eels are incredibly happy with his roster rebuild and want stability. They are trying to lock him down now so that he can't test the open market or walk away at the end of his third year.

Yes, Daniel Anderson was the general manager of football (often called head of football) for the Parramatta Eels.
• Appointment: He returned to the club in October 2013 as the general manager of football operations after quitting his role as the NRL referees boss.
It's ok to admit you are wrong poppa, give it a try.
Well if you say that's true JC, I certainly didn't know that title and I apologise, I might have to go look it up just the same....fair enough if you are right and I will be happy to do so.
Surely the Eels are holding all the ace's regarding Ryles moving forward. If the club is happy with the job he has done at this stage, extending his contract shouldn't be difficult. I very much doubt that another club would be thinking, ' if our current coach doesn't work we will target a coach (Ryles) after his 2 year's results ( losing more than he has won) and a defensive record no better than disgusting '. Not only has Ryles struggled for wins during his 2 seasons, the Eels recruitment has been extremely poor and lacking in direction. It would be unfair to entirely blame Ryles for the Eels recruitment but surely he has had plenty of influence.
Fair comment Slippery. We are not saying Ryles cannot be a good coach. But he has not shown anything to say to other clubs "Come get me"
