It occured to me that the new tv deal is coming up in 2012 and with the popularity of league at the moment, its fair to say we will get a substantially better deal from what I've read. With it the salary cap will surely increase to combat the potential threat of loss of players to other codes.
So, should we be looking at back ending their deals to 2012 in the hope of keeping them all? Is that how it works? Can we do that?
It is a risk but calculated. Will probably get shot down by some for this but I am just trying to think outside the box as I would hate to see any of them leave without looking at all avenues.
Maybe it something the club should investigate iff they haven't already?

And dont forget when the cap inevitably goes up the price of players contracts will go up also!!
We have a bloody fair line up currently alot more star studded players than other clubs out their and we have to be borderline on pushing the cap as it is
The only thing that will keep some of these players at the club is for them to either take a pay cut which I highly doubt!!
And or Players like Cayless whom will most likely be retiring at the end of this year and Grothe may pick up a lucrative SL contract or Union is the only way I can see the club keeping some not ALL
I know the Knights are very keen on Mateo and would have way more money to spend than the eels could ATM I was dirty when the eels los Zeb Taia to the Knights a few years back and he has been their best forward week in week out for them since
Fact is we are going to lose players its a given and we have no control over it so no use in worrying about it!!!
Let's say absolutely worse case we get into bidding wards with all three players and we have to find another $500k to upgrade those three. You would cover that by simply letting go of Cayless and Inu and replacing them with basic wage players. As much as I would hate to lose him, I think we'll struggle to make a competitive offer to Guru as well. So there's plenty of juggling room for us.
Also, with the inevitable increase in TV rights revenue, whilst highly likely, there is no guarantee that the NRL will immediately lift the cap.
It seems the players and managers are looking ahead to that time for a big windfall too.
