Rylsey's Staff clean out continues

BEARS BUILDING STAFF

Perth have continued to build a strong support staff around coach Mal Meninga by securing experienced coach James Shepherd to be one of Meninga’s assistants.

Shepherd, who played first grade for the Roosters in the 1990s, joins the Bears from Parramatta, and will be an assistant NRL coach.

                    • Tried venomously......where did they bite them when they tried that....sounds like you have stumbled/fallen on the exact reason our R&R is so low in your estimation.....not enough "venom"?

Not that I think your a stumbler Chief....definately a mumbler, maybe a bumbler just the same.

  • Well Shepard hasn't exactly set the world on fire since 2024.  We have zero outside backs pushing through and putting pressure on our already depleted first grade side.   Ill say Shepard hasn't been a success.   He's been here 3 years and thats more than.long enough to set up our systems.  Reserve grade is still a joke.   Although we have a few good forwards coming through flegg have also been failures

    • We've had 9 pathways players debut the last 2 seasons in the NRL and have retained 7 of them. Is that not the role of the Head of Academy and Elite Pathways? NSW Cup was not his responsibility.

      Elite Pathways are:
Flegg, SG Ball, Harold Matts, Tarsha Gale and Lisa Fiaola.

I have no idea why you're going after Shepherd like this. The role of the head of academy and elite pathways is to develop those juniors into NRL players. Once they hit NSW Cup level it's not on Shepherd and the pathways team, it's up to the senior coaches to develop them further.

      • Well,  no outside back that is now putting pressure on fg has come through from development in the last 3 seasons.   Shepard is  also in liaisons with the head of football to advise on the state of who's pushing through,  and who we need to sign from other clubs to bolster our backs.

Who has come through his systems in the backs  and is now almost ready for fg - nobody

  • Good - we need stronger systems in place here and some young hard heads coming through.

  • By the looks of his pic he loves to hit the piss. Honestly wow the bears got him lol. Laugh if you want but ryles should have the wok .. warren ryan hanging around very sharp and could help ryles

    • Ryles speaks to Warren regularly

      • 👍
