I'd rather we wait until the second half of 2027, but I won't be too bothered I've seen enough to be hopeful for sure.
Weird move , the only reasons I could think of for such a move are all negitive . It's certainly not due to sterling performance. It screams inexperienced management panicking.
Maybe Ryles manager Mimis has promised to deliver us a star recruit like Sloan if we extend Ryles lol.
I swear this club spends its days looking for ways to make us more pathetic for longer periods. They're easily fucking impressed that's for sure. MON is their expert adviser and Ryles ducks and weaves two spoons and gets an extension.
Pretty odd for this to happen prior to a new CEO being named. Once a sitting CEO resigns all big strategic decisions should wait for the new CEO ideally.
Ryles contract isn't up, so why rush a renewal before the new boss is appointed to assess the decision.

Great post Cap. Some good points that i didn't think of. You're spot on that why not wait for new CEO to be hired beforehand. The idea should be the CEO has as much in it's control as possible, not great if they have a coach you didn't hire signed for 4 more years.
There was no need to sign him now. Only time you need to sign a coach, in my opinion, is before they enter the last year of their deal. Ryles has two years of his original deal left. This is very Wests Tigers esque from Parramatta. Trying to smother the noise by going over the top.
Unless the talk of Ryles and Rush's connection being true, therefore Rush doesn't have an issue extending Ryles? That is me clutching at some sort of straws there are.
Yes I was thinking the same thing regarding the current lack of CEO. Surely whoever takes that seat gets to have a say in who the coach is? This just tells prospective CEOs that they will need to fight an incoherent and inexperienced board. Who wants to do that whilst you are trying to build the club up?
I'd like to think there are other things at play and that we have already done a handshake on a new CEO and this was something he wanted, but experience tells me the board has just thrown this out there for reasons known only to them.

Even the practicalities...who would have approved this? The outgoing CEO? Surely not, terrible move and just wouldn't happen. The Board? That's massive overreach. The GM Football? I hope not, surely he knows he's got his own job to worry about.
And if Rush is the incoming CEO - why not annouce him first? He doesn't have a gig currently so doesn't have to wait out the NRL season. Something smells about this whole situation. I hope it's just the media getting it wrong.
I'm all for this. We need to actually give him time. He inherited a bit of a mess, came in, cleaned house and now he's building.

i think JR will eventually become a good coach, but how do you an extend someone that hasnt achieved anything yet.

Can't argue with that. I'm ok with the extension but also agree there was no need to do it now.
So we stuck with Brian Smith for a decade or so we stuck with Arthur for the same a bit longer in between Smith and Arthur we had a shit show 6-7 odd coaches.IMO it's a no brainer to keep JR and stick with him.Onething we should have learnt the last 20-30 odd years we've been our most successful when we've stuck solid.JR is off to a soso start but there's enough there as a coach to suggest he can do the job.
What he hasn't got and it needs immediate improvement is in the recruitment and retention stakes and the transference of our talent not only to FG but to excel when it's there.This for me is the aim and where the pathways and people involved in both areas mentioned need to give the coach more support.
What we have in those areas imo isn't it.
