Recruitment and Retention and signings

Ryles states he is is no rush to make signings! I am sorry, but we have an L plate coach who sees no rush? Really, we are second last on a ladder. We will be lucky to avoid the spoon. Unless something changes we have no change on last season, despite the fact that I do see improvements in the squad, but we are still way off the mark.  I am stunned by this statement and we must have so much money available for the right players to improve this squad yet we appear to be doing risky squat! I truly hope there are some things going on in the background but if we keep status quo, we are in a word of pain for years to come. The fact that we still have no decent replacement for Dylan Brown says it all.  I am getting beyond frustrated. We lack serious impact forwards and a quality 6 and centre.  Are we just sitting and hoping or is the Club going to come up with something?  One concerned and frustrated life long eels fan here.

      • What's 5% of 11.5 million ?  If you play short every season which we seem to do  , which is the equivalent of one good player , with interest your making what an extra 600k ?  How are we spending our whole cap this season ? We aren't.  No way on this Earth have we accounted for every cent in talent .

What I'd like to know is , are there any loopholes around this rule ?   So if you release a million dollar player in say June ( example )  , are you expected to find another half million dollar player for that year to account for the savings you've just made  ? I feel like this is where we are penny pinching.

        • some small loopholes exist Wiz, in the form of front loading. An example could be

ie Moses on $1m each year. We can pay him say $1.2m this year and $800k the year after for example using your cap this year on next years payment. There are certain rules about it but this happens a lot. This gives you an extra $200k to pay someone else next year. etc You do this a few times and you can get an advantage for a season.

          • In our case we front load players and then they jostle for a release in their final year or refuse to play 😂

No I get this , but as I was saying the other day in the " front loader " conversation, it creates a player vaccum as all of a sudden we find ourselves with a loaded squad all needing to be paid full freight after the " advantage " season is done.

We must be millions under this season , there's got to be a loophole around spending the entire cap.  It'd be fucking reckless to have spent our entire cap on the players we have listed. Maybe we've paid Moses for the next 3 years in advance .

      • Don't let the facts spoil the story Super,  The Tall Poppy Syndrome is alive and well.....it basically means if someone has got something that they haven't then it is fair game to knock them.

Its an idiom that is very common on this site from the "haters" group. Any one that wear's a suit is obviously an owner of "illgotten gain's".

    • So you are telling us they are funnelling cap money into their own private bank accounts?

      Sounds legit.......

      • Ummmm no .... I'm saying they're saving money to hit performance targets.

        But strong effort..

        • But how? We don't get to keep the money if it's not spent.

          • We don't keep money saved by appointing Temu coaches ?    You're the one demanding we make it all about the cap. We have had a big centre of eggs to pay for , is it that crazy to think these guys may be sticking to a thin budget to assist their needs ?

As for the cap , since it's a sticking point , as I said , even if you had to spend 95% as per the NRL grant stipulates , I question IF there are loopholes being exploited. Otherwise how would you explain the methods we seem to employ every season ?  Are you certain they have to give back anything unspent or are you guessing based on what you'd assume is logical ?

With Sutton in the middle, this should be a very easy win to the Titans.
