The answer is simple....when you don't get the two points, you get fcuk all running second or is there a consolation. I think we have the next best result.

We looked at the individuals for excuses  and if reading a summary of those opinions and you didn't know the score and circumstances then you would think we were outclassed.

The reality was we lost 18/10, 12/10 would be a more indicative score. We led twice at important and winnable parts of the game. The game/opposition was led by the worlds best player and 4 other origin players with similar arguments in their respective positions

We had to counter that Moses, who carried a calf injury into the game and was valuable in the first half as he helped create the speed of our attack. He obviously came out worse for wear in the second half wearing a quad ? support, where he acted like, as someone said,  an on field coach.

Anyone with half a brain and Moses himself acknowledges Cleary as the best. Doesn't mean he cannot be effective in beating Penrith (he has in the past).

The other experienced players we had were Lomax(obviously) Paulo,Brown (who had a great game) and JAC. Throw in Walker,Hopgood,  Matterson (also good).

Our centre pairing showed up  Samrani badly and in the forwards Hautonga. The rest of the team rookies alike were solid with Smith outstanding.

My view was that we showed two specific things,  Potentionally that we are good enough to match anyone and two they just lack that big match experience, which only comes with a team of experienced winners..... Penrith knows how to win clutch games! if you were thinking they are now not that good, I think you need to look again. The quality of that game last night was universally hailed as finals type speed and quality.

The way some of our supporters turned on the individuals was quite disgusting IMO.

Read the summaries of specific negative posters, during the match day blog, EA's summary and the idiots like Merkin.

Please understand it is fine to be critical if it can be done constructively and in context. Not being outclassed needs to be put into the context I am trying to demonstrate here.

Finally I believe if we could put our top side on the paddock, all injuries aside then I believe we can beat that Penrith side with the experience we have learnt and learning.

Special Note. Watched Sandon Smith from Roosters last night....he is the perfect replacement for Dyllan Brown....I would pay up to what we were prepared to pay for Galvin. Roosters will not be blind to him regardless of who they have coming back (walker) so we need to make an offer too good to refuse! i.e. We probably would have paid 1m to retain DB and 800 to get Galvin. We lose nothing with this guy in comparison, plus he can play half, 5/8 and supposedly hooker.

  • Think Ryles has said this a few times in his press conferences. The team at the moment is just focused on improving in areas of the game and the results will come.  Lot of young players getting a taste or nrl and we aren't really in a position to be a top 8 side yet.

  • overall vast improvements and no doubt more on the way BUUUTT  !! for the love of God , why the hell is that one of our experienced forwards in the opening  minutes  of a match giving away dumb ass penalties or pushing a pass that was never going to be on   , i mean it's  almost predictable that shat ! , even over  the last few games,  geezers talking about putting your best  foot forward,  then again  one  should be used to it by now  over the years , decades , but indeed vast amounts of improvements ... to the coaching  staffs credit  or wot  poppy ?

    • My grandchildren all call me Poppy so yes Christee I think your right .....the coaching staff get the credit.

Matter of fact you could say the past coaching staff have to look a little embarrassed in comparison. What Ryles has done and is doing is not as if he has spent a lot of money getting here.

His personality doesn't show it..... but he looks pretty driven to me. Its almost a degree of freshness in his whole approach. Some of the existing "slow" coaches could do worse than take note!

  • Once possession swung then the fatigue set in for us and the ball movement stopped pretty much.

Theres no drama's it's just a time and experience thing happening now.

We have to learn to win again under a new coach and structures is all and that's going on.

Only thing really I want to see is lessen the errors and continue to build in the execution stakes as we had enough pill and field position to win the game we just didn't execute.Alot of this is time and combinations building.

    • Coryn Hughes

Coryn I think the fatigue effected the Rookies because they have probably not played a game at that pace ever before.

One exception was Smith, his aerobic ability is very special.Whilst i would not have taken him off, I cannot criticise Ryles because he was trying to make a game breaking change. Probably makes Joash an example of difficult to place in a comfort zone.....early days yet.

      • Throw Lomax and Moses in that boat also those guys played there hearts out but just couldn't get it done.

I mentioned in the game thread I thought if we took our opportunities minimised the errors we'd come home over them. The error thing we just can't deal with,it puts to much pressure on us and we use up to much petrol.Throw in what your saying and the loss basically is a given for the most part.

Riff completed at 90% to was a killer also.

  • Jason Ryles has one particular trait that I like  which is that he doesn't say much and keeps things close to his chest . When Madge took over the Broncos he couldn't shut up about what he wanted to do and he has been a epic failure , JR said SFA when he took over and kept most things to himself yet he has made a big improvement to what we were last year despite loses.

I can say that out of all the coaches Parramatta have had since Anderson JR easily gives me the most confidence by many miles .

    • I cannot disagree Fongy.

He is a lot smarter than when  Wiz indicated he couldn't run his sisters coffee shop.

    • Good call.I think how I'd describe JR when he speaks is he's very measured he never gets to high or low just plays a straight bat even when things go against us.I think unlike some of our fan base he realises this is a marathon not a 100 metre sprint.

Lots of work needs to be done but I give the club credit here even though he wasn't there first choice regardless how we got there I think they hired the right man for the job.

      • Interesting point Coryn.

I believe if Ryles was on the open market now, he would be swamped for offers. Every struggling club with an alright roster would be dreaming about him......and his team.
