I bet you he doesn't play full back at Panthers, suspect he won't make first grade at this stage. Further to that I understand why he is not staying! My guess is he has settled for a much less payment from Penrith with the smart view of him learning more there than he would with us. That becomes a 2 edge sword for him, because that can be how you build spirit and it can make you that special player he wants to become.

Personally I would buy 2 proven players for 300 each before paying 600 for him. I suspect there is some young players further developed than him out there that would jump at that money. Like I have said previously I do not think I have ever seen a more over hyped junior come through Parramatta. Yes, he has ability but he is a long way short in his present development and he has now taught us a salutary lesson that leads me to the above heading.

Hoe makes the point in another blog about caring for the jersey and he (Talagi) obviously doesn't, caring for the jersey is also chicken and egg, i.e. He doesn't have an historical background to have seen us as a great club, most of our kids have not unless they have had to work hard for it and I can't think of many in that category recently. Tends not to happen with gifted young players these days. Look at what is happening at the Broncos!

After the halycon days of the 80's Parra, specifically Fitzgerald took a view that we will continue to produce outstanding juniors, Sterling's, Kenny, Ella, Grothe etc but we should never have lost sight of the fact we bolstered our sides from 76 onwards with bought players. Our first renaissance, post 80's basically came from the Dogs 4 with their emergence through super league in the nineties.

We need now to make sure we buy what we need from the market and by all means bring juniors through BUT and this the new issue, the juniors that do come through have to understand that the jersey is something special they play for.

I believe BA created that feeling when he first took over and the underdog spirit (all be it with soldiers, rather than juniors) was very important to our post administration period.....that was lost eventually and we have seen the results of that in the past 2 years.

We need to get that spirit back so everyone understands that it is a priveldge to play for Parra (Carty seems to grasp that because he has done it through the back door). Unfortunately we need to take the 2 steps back now and start paying premiums for new players to come to us (again).

It maybe a business in the eyes of the board, but those eyes need to widen so that they understand, we have to buy our players rather than grow them in todays market, yes we can still be a development club, but we have to balance the alternative with purchasing the players to make us the winning club that encourages our juniors to aspire to.

The challenge is there to take up.....Ryles is first hitter up! Lets start with the board making a few more statements of who we aspire to be and how! You know why, because it may also encourage our players to know we all have some "spirit".

Post Script, how long ago has Talagi had his little ceremony when he was presented with his jersey for playing his first game in First Grade, the rhetoric would have been the honour and the privlidge, I wonder how he feels if someone said to him now what a "hollow" process that was!

  • On point Pops, with spirit of the jersey. To me this is just gone, its missing and is a huge thing  that has to be instilled to be successful. Our players have said some wierd things in interviews recently about "being happy and not worrying about the result" " not knowing who our next opponent is""not knowing where we are on the table""not knowing some  past player names" etc . The caveat to this is Gutherson and Moses. Both seem like they would die for the cause.

First and foremost must be respect for the jersey and what and whom that jersey represents. Id love for McNeill the manager of football operations to really take that on board as well, and fu%$ his player options off. They devalue the jersey, they devalue the club. Club/Fans should be first and foremost. Knowing who they are representing instead of just a cheque each month into their bank account.

On another note, I'm concerned about our coach Mr Rookie not being able to keep whom we want. He loudly proclaimed he wanted Blaize and that he was giving him the fullback spot. All amounted to zero.\  and Ryles fails at his first attempt to keep a player he wanted. I am starting to wonder if Mr Rookie is able to attract players as well.

    • Sorry Bluey but I have to disagree with you, you guys have been sold a set of "emporers new clothes " with your option angles.

I honestly don't believe you guys understand options, a widely used tool in all sorts of business transactions ranging from stocks to property. used in NFL and AFL the option prices represent a premium to an alternate price. I dont think that is understood. Yes their is disadvantage to Parra for it being a one way strike but you/we do not and will know how much premium we built into the deal. How would you price Dyllan now, because we really don't know what we paid originally.

The other thing is the proclamation Ryles allegedly made that he wanted Blaize and was giving him the fullback spot. That is purely conjecture and was never officially released, just more licence taken by our disreptable media. My guess is that Ryles is as unimpressed with him as many of us are and is probably thanking his lucky stars that "that one was a good one to miss".

Sorry mate, I love your comments, but I can only say what i think.

      • Haha , in the context we use them , they're not all that common at all.  They're usually a two way street when it comes to trade offs. If business's operated with supply of goods the way we do with options it'd be crippling. Everyone would need to be employed as casuals for starts . These player options are retarded . Especialy running numerous at once .

      • I disagree Pops , but i wouldnt have it any other way. Always say what you think, is fine by me.

        • Wizard. Please do not comment on things you dont understand.....stick to your soft drink sales.

  • *Pops , Penrith are looking at blaze as their next five-eighth.  It has nothing to do with taking less for the sake of experience.

*Of course he won't play fullback as he isn't a fullback.  Plus they have Dylan Edwards

    • He is no certainty to be the 5/8 Chief. Read what Bup says.

As mother said in Monty Python and the life of Blaize, he is not the Messiah, he's  just another naughty boy.

  • The money speculation around this kid was crazy.

Hes not a genuine 5/8 instinctively, he's strong through the hips and runs a strong inside line(like a good backrower) lacks explosiveness off the mark which is  a must for a quality 5/8.

His ball playing or ability to create space for teammates is limited he's a ball runner where playing selfishly is his natural game and he lacks a quality kicking game.

Hence the conundrum with his best position, his  defence isn't great which means whatever position he plays he has positional weaknesses.

I don't know what his IQ or willingness to learn is like, playing outside Cleary would allow you to develop.

Cleary however misses plenty of games throughout the season so Blaize  will have to learn fast.

To me he looks like a solid 150 gamer, the boom on him to me is unjustified .

5/8s genuine top liners need pace off the mark or power, the ability to create space and take advantage of numbers with a decent short kicking game.

Blaize  has a lot of work to do and the promises  and money Parra apparently were offering would have been a disaster for us moving forward.

Sanders was the kid most likely as far as I'm concerned and the one we let get away, he had the nous , the kicking game and as a big body defensively was more solid then the other two.

  • If what TCT are saying is correct, most of our juniors in pathways are signed with Isaac Moses also. Could be a long rebuild lol.

    • IF TCT are correct &  most of our juniors are with Isaac, we're in trouble. IF SO, we could be wasting time, money & resources on kids that will be taught to look after themselves first & foremost. Isaac style. We'll need to recruit juniors & up-and-comers from elsewhere. Our pathways will have very little hope of successful translation. Out of curiousity, who was Penisin's/Dylbags PA?
