Player Salaries

This might appear as a really dumb question and excuse my ignorance but in regards to player Salaries how are their salaries paid.

In normal 40hr week jobs we get our wages either weekly, fortunately or monthly. We have our allocated sick leave days, superannuation and holidays per year.

How are Rugby League players paid? Do they get their contract amount all up front? Or is per week, fortunately or monthly? Do they have allocated sick days, superannuation? Do they get paid while sick or injured? Do they get extra bonuses like State of Origin, Rep games, etc... Do they lose any salary for indiscretions etc..

  • I've wondered the same thing. I read the players get $30K per game to play Origin, which is a tidy sum if you play the three games. If you get dropped to reggies does that impact what you're paid?

  • I've heard most are paid monthly, and like any other job, I would assume they get sick leave etc. I know that's why you don't see players back in club land til they have had the annual leave owed before coming back to training.

  • They are paid weekly or monthly. Then a certain type blow it straight away and ask for an advance.

  • They'd be contractors rather than employees. So they'd more than likely be paid an agreed amount per month (or other agreed period) and then need to look after their own tax and super via their management.

I only say this due to when they leave mid season the other team only needs to cough up the difference for that year.

Reality is I have NFI and am only giving what I assume happens.

    • Upon signing, a dumptruck full  $cash$, replete with traces of Peking Duck and beer, pullsup to to their castle

  • All payments would be as per the players bargain agreement and from memory it's monthly.

  • They're contractors with an abn. Hindmarsh said in his book he got paid weekly , but I've drank with an ex Canterbury star player who said when he was younger he would blow his pay at the start of the month and had to wait another month to get paid.  He works in Appin pit now so I'm assuming not much changed as he got older.
Legend of a bloke , he'd be at Milperra pub on the beers and Winny blues one night , and get man of the match the next day.

    • I seem to remember  blahblah something group insurance plus blahblah supply labour-only to one employer only equals not contractor....but they would have tricksy moneybugs helping them so.....

      • no idea what you just said , but we have a shitload of contractors contracted to our company exclusively.

    • No guessing who the player is with that image Wiz... haha
