Player positions V Salary cap value ?

All this talk of players and who should we keep and who should go.. I thought we should get some peoples view on player positions and cap value.. should a winger only get 150k ? a lock 180k?... for years I have felt Parra have spread the $ over the 25+ players and not looked at the top 17 with a few up and comers to fill the 25. thought's ?

  • 1. Jarryd Hayne - 400k(wont stay for anything else i guess)
    2.Luke Burt - 100k(being a veteran i am sure he wouldn't mind a salary cut.)
    3.Timana Tahu - 200k
4.Krisnan Inu - 250k (In my eyes of the best players in the world 2009 was a bit sloppy but he came back from an injury)
    5. Eric Grothe - 100k
    6. Daniel Mortimer - 150k(would get pay rise when he is older 100%)
    7. Jeff Robson - 80k(hers desperate for a starting spot and i dont think he would say no to that)
    8. Justine Poore - 150k(thats what he is worth)
    9. Kris Keating - 150k
    10 Fui Fui Moi Moi - 350k
    11. Nathan Hindmarh - 300k( him too would take a pay cut for the team surely.)
    12. Shane Shackleton - 100k
    13. Feleti Mateo - 250k

    14. Kris Keating 95k
    15. Tim Manah - 95k
    16. Nathan Cayless - 100k
    17. Joel Reddy - 100k

Thats how i think it should be, i didnt keep note if it would fit under the cap, BUT! thats how much i beleive the players are worth.
    • Noo .. Hayne wont stay for 400 give him 450.
    • Moi Moi 350K, you're kidding me...

you talk about burt and hindmarsh being veterans and taking pay cuts, fui needs to do the same. Moi Moi's had one good season (injury & suspension free) and people wanna pay double what hes worth.
    • the only 2 players that would stay at the club at them prices would be moimoi and hindmarsh
  • would you take a pay cut at your job so someone else can come in and get paid more? Don't think so, these guys only have a good ten years in them at the top level so they should take what they can get even if it is moving to another club. I think its fantastic when you have 1 club people eg hindy but the more money they can earn in their prime the better.

    • no but you dont pay over someones value either, paying Fui $350,000 a season at the age of 31, thats not a good investment, how many players would that cost the club long term?
  • I think that you are totally correct. i think that the key positions worth the bulk of the money are
    Fullback,halfback or 5/8, lock,1 center, 1 prop, hooker
The rest should be filled with lower price players just have in each sorta sub category one standout player.
Lets take one of the most successful clubs over the last few years the storm, they have most of their money in slater, inglis, cronk, c smith and adam blair, then look at what the broncos had lockyer, hunt, hodges, d taylor etc the cowboys had thurston, bowen, webb, tonga, payne. all these clubs have mosty of their money in the key positions i had mentioned and have lower players in other positions.
I think we should not be paying a winger 300 000 to stand out and get the ball a few times a game, instead we should have a lower priced winger(plenty of young blokes out there wanting a go) and spend the money on someone that wins the match eg halfback.

i think as they get on with age such as tahu and his return we should be signing them for less $$ and be putting the money into the younger future players, if they dont wanna come back or stay for less $$ then they can move on, no one is irreplaceable their will always be someone that will take that spot for less $$.
  • I agree with the argument that a winger should seldom be paid huge bucks unless they offer somthing above the ordinary. A guy like Bryson Goodwin from the dogs gave great service on the end of the backline last year and that was on minimum wage.

However both Parra's guys do offer more than your usual winger. Grothe is robust and plays like an extra forward whilst Burt offers something in nearly every facet of the game.

He is a capable back up fullback who is safe under the high ball and has a great combination going with Hayne at the back. He can pass the footy, he can kick in general play, he kicks goals he has a level head etc etc.

Therefore I don't mind if either of these guys get paid a little more than some of the other wingers out there who only look good when they are on the end of a slick backline movement or a nice kick (eg Steve Turner, Antonio Winterstein etc).
