    • Haas is an amazing acquisition for the Bunnies for sure, but imo they are overspending in odd positions bigtime.

All their money is tied up in the forwards with Haas, Arrow, Murray, Fifita, Smith. Then you have Wighton, Mitchell, and Campbell in the backline who would be on decent coming too. How the hell the can afford that team is beyond me, they would need to subsidise all other team members as rookies on minimum wage.

They will have the best pack in the comp with close to the worst spine in the comp.

Once Walker retires, and Haas comes in, they are relying on rookies in the halves and The smallest player in the game at FB, this could absolutely backfire on Bennett.

  • I say good on Souths, they have a squad with many more high profile players than us on bigger contracts and still recruit the best forward in the game. We always seems to have no cap space.

    • Yet they might not have much money for a half.

Can anyone with certainty tell me who their spine will be in 2027? Gray or Mitchell at 1

      Who knows at 6 & 7

Smith maybe at 9, Mamazoulos maybe? Or a new signing.

Their depth isn't very good as shown last year and it will continue as their juniors are rubbish.

  • Haas would walk into any NRL team with most clubs willing to dump who ever they need to to get him, so for Rabbits to pull this off with no one aware shows how negotiations should occur in the background.  It also means theat some players will now be on the market for 2027 to clear space.

I just don't see Haas being happy in busy Sydney.  He grew up in Newcastle and moved to the gold coast so is in for a massive shock as well as scrutiny from the media and fans like he is not used to.  I see him returning on compassionate grounds to Qld breaking the contract early or even using the cooling off period of 10 days with new offer from Broncos unless something is very wrong inside the club and his relationships with others..

I hope it works out for him and his family but it raises plenty of questions why leave a premiership winning team from a powerhouse club for a struggling team in the busy and hectic lifestyle of inner city Sydney.

Is Haas moving his siblings to Sydney as he is now guardian of them.  His younger brother signed with Broncos academy and is 15 while their mum is still in jail in Qld.  Does Haas fit the bro culture with Latrell, Whighton and Walker who run the team.

If he doesn't see out the contract, what do Souths lose in way of young players not renewed due to lack of salary cap?

Do Souths think Walker will play on, or is Latrell or Whighton going to play 5/8 in 2027.  Do they have any young guns ready to step up?  Either way a lot rests on young Humphries because Smith at hooker doesn't offer much creativity and the other players mentioned are more ball runners not creatiive type players because there isn't any money to replace Walker.

  • This is what Haas is going to:

    Over the hill coach

    Injury prone lock

    Overrated 5/8

1 centre that once a blue moon decides to pull his finger out to play

1 centre that overplays his hand to produce nothing

Overrated winger that is only in the game to break the trys record

1 2nd rower that only plays well when things are going right

A hooker that goes missing more times than not

He definitely is going for an early retirement and won't be competitive anytime soon.

    • I agree there are more questions with this signing then any signing I can remember.  It doesn't make sense to leave a club like the broncos for rabbits when comparing squads and premiership chances.  There is more to this story which will get leaked soon enough.

    • ParraEels, we endorse your reading of the Bunnies if only out of hope it's true. Mixamatosis (sp?) for the lot of them

      • I am pretty sure that Mixamatosis ( I cant sp it either) would not be allowed by the greens Daz, I think you will have to get some right winged bunnies to do the job.....is there any left (no pun) well maybe a little one? pun that is.

    • I agree to an extent, but am curious if any other Sydney team knew of Haas' plan to return to Sydney or did his management go directly to Bunnies.

Only time will tell what's going on and if it was the right move.

    • even going there he will still the the best prop in the game if not all time
