If they could offer him similar money he'd stay but he's not taking less to stay I think. Probably just needs a change of scenery to. Won't hurt him lol
Sound logic Wiz, and even if Newy don't have the coin to keep Best we aren't going to be the only ones trying to sign him so I agree it'll be an overs on dollars, overs on contract length and (god forbid) possibly some options in his contract that favour the player.
Apparently his fiancée and her family are all Eels fans. But also wants to move to Sydney. But with new roads as they are, driving to Sydney from Newcastle is not as bad as it used to be.

We need upgrades in the back 5 and if he's one of them I'm all for it but make no mistake we need more.
You got to have a good back 5. The last 4 teams have that.
My only issue is he does get injured but never too long. He has averaged around 18 NRL games a season since 2022.
And he turned 25 this year. So has another 5+ years at the top if not more.
He's worth the million in my view. I'd get him AND Blaize. Blaize can cover fullback and halves too, and likes of Penisini and Samrani could use competition.
900k starting 2028. I think latrell is much better value at 1.1m
Probably not a terribly shocking price given the salary cap in 2028. We've got to face facts that we will be overpaying for our players.
My fear is he's going to be wasted unless we put the right talent around him. We desperately need size/height in the back row. He's the kind of guy who needs talent around him, he's not going to do it all on his own like a Ponga or a Walsh.
I'd prefer Best than Latrell. Best still gets injured a lot but he rarely puts in anything other than 100%. Trell is injury prone and unpredictable in effort.
$900k for Best, with new cap, I can easily stomach. Unlike the reported $1.7mil Perth are set to offer Latrell.
