Our Strongest Top 17 for 2025

I see everyone posting teams but are awful and are completely way off the mark. Here is a truly realistic top 17 for next season.

  1. Isiah Iongi
  2. Josh Addo Carr
  3. Will Penisini
  4. Zac Lomax
  5. Bailey Simmonson/ Sean Russell
  6. Dylan Brown
  7. Mitchell Moses (c)
  8. Joe Ofanghue
  9. Brendan Hands
  10. Junior Paulo
  11. Shaun Lane
  12. Bryce Cartwright
  13. J’maine Hopgood
  14. Joey Lussick
  15. Jack Williams
  16. Ryan Matterson
  17. Kelma Tuilagi

Reserves

Wiremu Greig

Matt Doorey

Luca Moretti

Sam Tuivaiti

Dean Hawkins

Joash Papalii

Haze Dunster

Toni Mataele

Development

Charlie Guymer I’d say 18/19/20th player

Richard Penisini

Saxon Pryke

The only changes would be if Paulo went back to his bench role impact & if ryles wants lane as a middle then Kelma would start in the second row position.

What do you think guys?

    • Take Dunster out of the centres, change him with Tago (a better centre than a winger, your words EA) and play Alamadine or Penisini on the wing.

      • Richie is in front of Alamadine in the pecking order based on their type of contract and training. Dunster will be chosen in front of them though. He has had a horrible run of injuries and even health issues. I know he most likely wont return to his best espcially his speed. However, he was actually a centre coming through the grades.

Yes, I think Tago is a better centre than winger, but in the NRL I see Tago's main chance is on the wing. So I rather Tago get the experience in cup on the wing if he is called up to FG. Russel and Simmo (moved to centre) are in front of Tago in the pecking order for centres I believe.

  • I am hearing another signing this week or next -a hooker not sure who

  • We are still 2 quality signings away from the top 4 unfortunatlely

    • Agreed and both of them in the forward pack.

  •

I think the Eels have a top 17 players that should play finals football, however, the depth available from player 18 through to 30 is a major weakness.

  • I see Ryles blooding a few kids as a few of our 17 are getting on soon. We have better depth with a view for the future.

At this stage, the current Round 1 team could be this, if no other changes.

    1. Iongi

    2. Simonsson

    3. Penisini

    4. Lomax

    5. Addo-Carr

    6. Brown

    7. Moses

    8. Ofahengaue

    9. Hands

    10. Paulo

    11. Lane

    12. Tuilagi

    13. Hopgood

    14. Papali'i

    15. Matterson

    16. Williams

    17. Cartwright

I know some say Lane will be middle. I am not sure to be fair whether he will be or not, just do not know. But for now leaving him on an edge.

    • LB you have JAC at 5 for round 1 thought he won't be available till round 3 due to suspension. Sorry if im mistaken
