He needed a cool story to fit in lol
Lol ... true
Fair enough my bad
Then again, if he said Caine was right makes him look dumb. So of course he would say it was rubbish if it wasn't.
He said that story is not true.
Amazing how you guys get of the track, the pedantic points you are arguing, are exactly that..... I have not read a word of commentry on the man, only the children squabbling " I told you so". This is to the script the answers are all there.
Yeah sometimes i forget my age...still think i'm a kid sometimes lol
So there he is, any take aways from anything he said that could help us improve on the recruitment front?
Interesting that he's described as a simple straight forward man. I would say there's a few that fit that mold that have reached the pinnacle of the game (Bennett and Bellamy come to mind).
I would say all three do a great job of observing and analysing people and their behaviours would be my key takeaway. There isn't some mysterious magical trick that only he knows to sign players. It's about making them feel comfortable, building a relationship and reading what they offer and determining if it's what the club actually needs (sometimes it isn't).
A while ago Willie mason had Gus on his podcast. They joked about when Gus was trying to get Willie to go to the chooks. He took him out for a seafood lunch (all you could eat). Willie ended up going to the bulldogs. I don't think Gus has changed his approach in over 20 years.
I'm sure our guys know all this, they've dealt with more important matters in their professional careers than signing some kid to a playing contract.
