It says that he scanned all the items - worth about $50 - and then walked out. They picked it up later on CCTV and then cops arrived at his house to issue him a shoplifting infringement.
someone attempted to rob the bank next to my work yesterday and it'd didnt make the papers
The Telecrap is terrible and for this to be the feature article at the top of site when we have diggers dying, planes crashing and a million political events taking place worldwide, it speaks volumes for their journalistic ethics and maturity
Pirtek Parramatta Eels Statement
Pirtek Parramatta Eels CELO Paul Osborne says he is highly embarrassed that a moment of absent-mindedness while shopping at his local supermarket has seen him issued with an infringement notice for shoplifting.
Osborne has made a submission to the police commissioner to have the infringement withdrawn, however, if not successful will contest the matter in court to clear his name.
On May 27 he scanned $49.10 worth of grocery items at an automatic check-out at the Woolworths supermarket in Dural and absent-mindedly walked out without scanning his bank card. He was not advised of the oversight until visited by police at his home more than two weeks later.
Osborne said: “I am obviously surprised and disappointed that I have been served an infringement (which carries a $300 fine) over what was nothing more than an oversight; I had a lot on my mind at that time. I scanned each item, packed them into a bag and forgot to scan my card and pay. I was at the supermarket I visit frequently, in my local area where I am well known and was wearing a Parramatta jacket, so there was no intention of dishonesty on my part whatsoever.
“It is highly embarrassing, I offered to pay the money as soon as I was made aware of the error. This is probably a lesson to others; it could happen to anyone if your mind is somewhere else.”
