The Parramatta Eels were outclassed by the New Zealand Warriors in the Toyota Cup in a 38-26 score line at Parramatta Stadium.
In a physical encounter, the Eels jumped out to an early 16-6 lead after 20 minutes. However, ill discipline and penalties invited the Warriors back into the match.
Ngataua Hukatai scoring easily to cut the lead to 16-12 before Braxton Stanley finished a beautiful piece of ball-work down the short side to score in the left corner. Hukatai slipped a magical ball to find Stanley to draw the scores level 16 all.
Braxton was a constant threat for the Warriors, terrorising the right hand side of the Eels defence. With a minute left in the first half, a daring backline movement 10 metres out from their own try line appeared to pay off with a try to the Eels. However, they were called for a forward pass and on the ensuing set Braxton scored for the Warriors to take a 20-16 lead at the half.
Eels hooker, Luke Vescio played well out of dummy and opened the scoring in the second half. In what was a highlight of the game, the speedy hooker caught some lazy marker defence 30 metres out from the try line to step and weave his way over. The Eels converting to take back the lead 22-20
However, it would be the last time the Eels would lead as Hukatai powered over in the left corner to regain a 26-22 lead.
A questionable penalty on fifth tackle lead to the Warriors scoring. Warriors fullback Omar Slaimankhel reaching out to score. Taukeiaho converting for a 32-22 lead and ultimately, sealing a victory with 15 minutes left.
The Eels tried hard throughout the match with captain Jason Wehbe and Vescio directing the Eels attack to score before the end of the game.
The Eels will face a nervous wait at the judiciary with Webhe on report for a dangerous tackle.
Any body manage to watch the game?

how did kelepi and fraser go ??
Kelepi was great. I thought the NYC boys held well against last years premiers. We had them till late in the game when we ran out of gas.
I watched young gun Seage at fullback, he is quick, pretty good defence too.
This EELS hooker Luke Vescio has some wonderful footwork, he was dazzling in scoring his try. A real future in the top grade for him.
Kelepi pulled of some really big hits, he left a few warriors on their asses.
I had a look at the NYC stats today. Vai Toutai keeps coming up with fantastic stats
Made 129m/11 runs including 5 tackle breaks and a line break. he made just short of 100m last week as well. I reckon if he were to cop another injury to our outside backs, Vai could be not far off a debut. From a pure stats basis Gagan. Moefaauo. Ualesi and Paulo all looked to have strong game.
Mind you check out the stats for a couple of the Warriors blokes:
Lili Sao 19 runs 196m 6 tackle breaks
John Palavi 16 runs 159m and 9 tackle breaks
Actually the number of tackle breaks they racked up is amazing. Seems like they just keep churning out these kids!
