I saw a reel with hammer and Herbie heading out on the boat to go fishing. How do we offer that at Parramatta? Tom Gilbert was interviewed by MMM radio the other week and they asked him what he does the morning of the game. He was walking along the beach (whilst being interviewed) and then heading home for a sleep and whatever else he does before that night's match. The dolphins are sorting out a deal for hammer right now, I expect they will retain every single player they want to keep. They are a desirable destination.
We need to adopt a strategy that's different from what you suggest. Forking out huge dollars on a select few players who deep down have absolutely no desire to represent our club other than for financial incentives will not work, in fact it is destined to fail.
Interesting exercise in frustration.....The player I detest in all of NRL is Latrell Mitchell.

OK so the quandry and balance comes into effect and I am ruling out any reason why he would want to come to Parra unless it is with his mate JAC who is a different kettle of fish! and will probably miss the first 12 rounds anyway.
So what are the circumstnces, I would offer him a $500k retainer, paid up front! After that I would offer $100000 for every game he plays after the first 10 are completed. At game 21 I would offer him for the next year $500000 up front and a similar contract if we make and he plays in the GF. ...... so at a minimum he gets $1.5m to play 20 games. ie he can potentially earn 2m per year with the last 500 rolling into the next year, regardless of him playing that next season or not. TPA's would be found to finance the upfront payments. Cap considerations then become 1m only!
There would be contingent KPI's involved.
Now while all those things are good and well, how do I think I would react to having such a detested player in our team. My guess is that many player's we have brought in on such circumstances have become well adjusted and adapted to our spirit, think Ferguson and the ex crims. The ones that have not lasted, think Foz and Watmough did not make the 10 game mark.
So circumstantially I would be comfortable......I love a challenge. Boy it would be a big one, just the same!

I tell you what I've suggested going looking farther afield poaching from Union going upto the islands for years.Different strategy the club isn't interested.They've got NFI of how or who to recruit NFI let that marinate for a minute.
The R and R committees a damn mess they've got project cluless running that and you think they need to come up with a different strategy.
Heres another one instead of signing players why don't we hire an actual recruitment manager that's got a clue someone with an actual plan how to go about it. I been on that for years.Funny thing here I've suggest a lot of this type of stuff for years but understandably the club knows better so here we are still with not a pot to piss in no plan no identity just a cluster fark in the recruitment area.Any sought of competition around signing players we have about what feels like about a 1 in 4 chance of signing a target.
Saw that stupid hitlist of talent article a few weeks back who Parra are targeting the thing you first mentioned we should forget the clubs doing exactly the opposite don't worry though you'll get used to it suggest away the clubs not listening.

It's just a short trip up the M1 to plenty of fishing spots around the Hawesbury, and that's Parra / Hills' back yard. I don't buy into the comments that Parra has no lifestyle to offer.

Yes, and there has been massive change over the years and with that, gentrification. What hasn't changed is the easy access to natural areas to the north and west.
It's understandable that you would have a fondness for the area you call home, we all do.
Have you been up Redcliffe way? I was there today actually. I drive a bus for a nursing home and we ended up in Scarborough today. A bit blowy but otherwise a nice place to be. I think you would probably have a difficult time selling the parramatta area to players as a desirable place to live. I could be wrong but it wouldn't be high on my list.
It's why I'm in favour of the path the club is on with prefering to develop juniors rather than deal with the open player market (I realise both are necessary).
Bit like penrith. Bar a few the rest are brought through their system
