  • This site has been taken over by ads!!! What the hell happened???

    • Mac5733, its not just this site, everywhere on the net has/is going the same way.

  • Quite obviously. Moses re-signed with us because his price is at an all time high.
this foot injury would of brought his price down.
even though he managed to squeezed another million out of us.

    • You really think teams that really wanted him would have been deterred by his foot injury which overall is common to act up after 12 months. Not like he tore an ACL and slow recovery.

His value did not drop a cent from this foot issue.

      • Let's not judge to quickly. A mate who played soccer, had same injury. Screw put in but kept swelling up and causing pain. Had screw removed and ended up with a green tree fracture 4mths later. Ended his playing days.

      • He'll be playing all year with injections and screw out in the next orf season, is my prediction.

Managed workload during training will be employed all year, or the alternative could be to go the Angus Crichten route.

        • Well Nathan Cleary in 2023 went into finals not training at all really and won Clive Churchill. For certain players their prep is so much different.

        • FYI Bluey,

Background There is disagreement among team physicians, without conclusive evidence, as to when high-level athletes with a Jones fracture should be allowed to return to play after being treated operatively with an intramedullary screw. Purpose To report our experience of early return to sport in collegiate athletes after intramedullary screw fixation of Jones fractures. Study Design Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods We identified all collegiate athletes with an acute fracture at the base of the fifth metatarsal treated by 1 of 2 orthopaedic surgeons with intramedullary screw fixation over a 22-year period (1994-2015), and we performed a retrospective review of their records. Fixation consisted of a single intramedullary screw. Athletes were allowed to bear weight as tolerated in a walking boot immediately postoperatively and return to play as soon as they could tolerate activity. Patients were contacted to complete patient-reported outcome scores that included the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) score, a brief survey specific to our study, and follow-up radiographs. Results A total of 26 acute Jones fractures were treated in 25 collegiate athletes (mean age, 20 years; range, 18-23 years). Overall, the athletes returned to play at an average of 3.6 weeks (range, 1.5-6 weeks). Three screws were removed for symptomatic skin irritation. There was 1 refracture after screw removal that was done after radiographic and clinical documentation of fracture union, which was treated with repeat cannulated percutaneous screw fixation. One screw was observed on radiographs to be broken at 1 year postoperatively, but the fracture was healed and the athlete was playing National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I sports without symptoms and continued to play professionally without symptoms. Of 25 athletes, 19 completed the FAAM at an average follow-up of 8.6 years (range, 1.5-20.0 years). They reported scores of 94.9% (range, 70.2%-100%) for the activities of daily living subscale and 89.1% (range, 42.9%-100%) for the sports subscale. Follow-up radiographs were obtained, and no nonunion, malunion, or additional hardware complications were identified. Conclusion Athletes with acute Jones fractures can safely be allowed to return to play after intramedullary screw fixation as soon as their symptoms allow, without significant complications. In our experience, this is usually within 4 weeks from injury.

          • Thanks Pops. Seems our high level athlete will be sitting on the sidelines for another 6 weeks.

            Honestly we can't take a F$%$3#3$ trick.

Wonder who we can rely on to stand up and steer the ship for some wins whilst he's out.

            • The course we take has probably not been defined in our minds Bluey.

This becomes a real test for Ryles (which I'm sure he doesn't need or want at this stage) and that's not a critique of him. I can judge the subjectiveness of his selections, but that means nothing on my part i.e I would not have picked Tago, otherwise I cannot be critical. Losing Hawkins in the circumstances of Moses injury is part of that "fcuking cant take a trick".

I would be happy with Volkman but I am not sure he is the organiser and strategic kicker that Hawkins offered as the perfect replacement. He played half in the trials but was mostly known as a 5/8. You have identified his defensive weaknesses, but even if Moses was playing, I dont think there is a huge difference, yes Moses defence has improved greatly, but regardless of that with his proness to injury, I think he needs to be protected in that respect.

The absence of JAC is note worthy in that Iongi gives us pace and so does Lomax but our remaining wingers give us not much at all. I suspect he was worried about playing Joash because of his height, but Tago is not a good a jumper as Joash. I noted when he played fullback, he got quite high on kick takes. I always thought Tago was more of a centre than a winger (thats his history). I wonder if him and Lomax might swap a bit.....I think Ryles will give Lomax a floating type role.

My summation is that on face value we are pushing shit up hill, but this is where we may be surprised. We just don't know what Ryles and his coaching staff have improved with this team over last year. I noticed that Roosters were run over by the Bronco's forwards last night and the halves feasted on it. The question is will our forwards hold there own, and thereby the strength of the Storm halves will be hoppled.

This is a test of our forwards rather than our halves. We know our halves and backline will get better, forwards is what will be interesting.
