NRL THREATEN 10-YEAR BAN FOR R360 DEFECTORS

  • ARL Commission / NRL threatening bans The Australian Rugby League Commission (and associated NRL leadership) has threatened 10-year bans for players or agents who negotiate, sign, or agree (verbal or written) with a competition (like R360) that is not recognised by the ARLC as a national sporting federatio

  • What those bans cover

    1. Players: any agreement to join an unrecognised league would trigger a ban of 10 years from participation in the NRL or any ARLC-sanctioned competitions. News.com.au

    2. Agents: similar 10-year sanctions for NRL-accredited player agents who assist or advise players in these agreements. News.com.au

  • Potential legal issues Some legal commentators have said that imposing bans or sanctions of this kind might face legal challenges, especially under employment/contract law — e.g. whether such bans are a restraint of trade.

      • That's total crap Pou, RCG had a 5yr contract with Penrith, he was told he wasn't wanted, same with Waqa Blake. How many players are in a similar situation, their previous club paying part of their salary at another club. This is how clubs offload players, still contracted, they don't want

        • Nah Pou is right, RCG still had to agree to come to Parramatta. He had a contract and was free to stay at Penrith if he liked, he would just play NSW Cup.

        • If Parramatta never picked RCG or Blake up, they would have stayed at Penrith. Simple as that. Both players got paid out their Penrith contract value, in full.

    • Players never lose out being 'offloaded' mid contract. They always get paid out the contract.

      • It's why freight is commonplace, and often a win-win. RCG & Waqa moved to the Eels after Ivan Cleary returned to the Panthers in 2019 (Gus gone). Despite being in contract, they were subsequently offloaded with freight paid for by the Panthers.

  • This could only be a temporary fix. If Rugby 360 ends up working and still exist after a couple years, what happens then? Players will be willing to end their NRL career because they will be earning millions and not scared of the comp just folding

    • R360 wants to work, they will do everything within their power to make it succeed. God help the NRL if it does succeed.

"How in any discussion is Fa'alogo in the same class discussion as Munster.
I mean seriously Munster's done everything in the game Sua while recency bias tells you he has talent he isn't in the same area code as Munster position regardless."

"Surely Fa'alogo to Fullback if this is the case. Munster isn't as a good a fullback as Fa'alogo. Pezet isn't as good a 5/8 as Munster. Melbourne don't seem the type of team to weaken two positions to fill one spot.
