NRL THREATEN 10-YEAR BAN FOR R360 DEFECTORS

  • ARL Commission / NRL threatening bans The Australian Rugby League Commission (and associated NRL leadership) has threatened 10-year bans for players or agents who negotiate, sign, or agree (verbal or written) with a competition (like R360) that is not recognised by the ARLC as a national sporting federatio

  • What those bans cover

    1. Players: any agreement to join an unrecognised league would trigger a ban of 10 years from participation in the NRL or any ARLC-sanctioned competitions. News.com.au

    2. Agents: similar 10-year sanctions for NRL-accredited player agents who assist or advise players in these agreements. News.com.au

  • Potential legal issues Some legal commentators have said that imposing bans or sanctions of this kind might face legal challenges, especially under employment/contract law — e.g. whether such bans are a restraint of trade.

  • If you're at the back end of your career it could still be worth it. Your agent wont be able to be involved "officially".
I think this is a good move by the NRL. It sends a very clear message. Now the players know where they stand. Some will probbaly still give it a crack regardless.

  • Not only defectors, but any player or NRL player agent that negotiates with R360 get a 10 year ban or even a manager that advises a client is still 10 years.wow.

    Those penalties include:

    - Any NRL Player who negotiates, signs, or enters into a Letter of Intent, Playing Contract, or any other form of agreement—whether verbal or written—with a football competition, league, or organisation not recognised by the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) as a national sporting federation, will be banned from participation in the NRL and any ARLC-sanctioned competitions for a period of ten (10) years.

    - Any NRL Accredited Player Agent who acts for, assists, represents, or advises a player in any capacity in relation to dealings with, or the signing of, a Letter of Intent or Playing Contract with a football competition that is not recognised by the ARLC as a national sporting federation, will be subject to the same ten (10) year ban from NRL-related activities, including accreditation renewal.

    Thats huge.

  • What does this mean for Lomax

    • Lomax has plenty to lose. . He could still have at least 8 years in the NRL  potentially income of around  6.4 million before tax.

If Lomax chooses R360 he may earn 2 or 3 million,  but there's no guarantee the competition will survive or that income protection will be mandate there.  I think its a big risk.

For someone in the twilight years like RTS its a benefit to sign on

      • I doubt R360 stays a float.

      • RTS is also off-contract, isn't he? If that's the case, this wouldn't apply to him. I'm assuming this would only apply to players who are breaking existing contracts.

      • He'll make that in 3yrs in Japan and R360 rugby

  • Glad to know they heard me whinge about it. Its unfair on the fans that pay big dollars for memberships and then they find out their best player is on the way out of the 4 year contract in just one year. A bit werid, honour the paper you sign or fuck off to reggies.

  • I don't think they'll give a rats if they are making 4-5 times what they are currently making.

If you love the game and hate rugby - might be a different story

    • You'd have to be sure the competition will survive for the guaranteed money.  But there will always be opportunities for Lomax in another country like Japan rugby or pommy land.   There's no opportunities in Australia so it means moving abroad for a decade
