Joash set for his starting debut

Here's a summary:

## Key Points
1. Parramatta Eels' Joash Papalii is set to make his starting debut in the No.6 jersey against the Titans.
2. The opportunity arises due to suspensions/injuries to key players Dylan Brown and Mitch Moses.
3. Dean Hawkins will start at No.7.
4. Papalii has played 3 games as an interchange player and has experience playing in the halves at NSW Cup level.
5. Teammate Zac Lomax praises Papalii, saying he's "light on his feet" and "trains really well."

            • Two lumps or three CE..... get your head out of that camels arse!

    • Moses is a conundrum but he's still a top tier half zero doubts about it his form has fluctuated because of injuries and he hasn't played a full season in 3 years cough  22 the gf and finals run years previous.

Ive said this for years your halves will only be as good as those doing there jobs around them.Parra unfortunately for the last 3 years have had to many key injuries and suspensions to players and we haven't been able to handle it without them.Throw in depth issues and rule changes and it's just come down on us like a ton of bricks.

Now all we are doing is rebuilding brick by brick.

  • I hope this doesn't show he not ready for first grade. Good luck buddy!!

  • He may be small but i remember Preston Campbell was just a winger and fullback, But became a decent 6 and 7 back in the day. It may work or it may not. Atleast ryles is backing himself with these decisions.if you look up the weight and height on both you'll see papalili is 5kg heavier and like 1cm shorter.

    • KENDOZA  Actually his son is following the same path, he is looking the real deal as 5/8 at Titans and they are looking at releasing him.....we could do worse. Interesting that even a player like Nikorama as a much more mature player is looking very good as well with the maturity coming through. Also look at Mann at the dogs, nothing more than a journeyman, now in the Qld Origin side (not that I would take him, but just saying how they can develop and deliver).

My guess is we could pick Campbell up for 550?

      • Poppa, I totally agree. I reckon 550 would be spot on to. I can't understand why the titans don't want him though.

      • My question is why are they releasing him? He is playing some good footy. Is it simply they signed Brimson then Kini and to avoid Campbell asking for an upgrade and going through the hassle of contracts and where to play him since none of the 3 are actual Halfbacks they just cut bait, maybe get something in return or have halves pairing of Sexton and Brimson.

There is one club that was sounded out, i would believe it is us since we tried to get him in 2023. And when Anasta nearly let slip a 6 we were keen on many think it could be Pezet since Anasta manages him and could be the case, but also Campbell would make news with at the time nobody knowing Titans were looking to offload him.

I have been impressed with Campbell and he would fit what Ryles is looking for. He wants his Hooker to be eyes up i reckon he would want his 5/8 the same. Plus he wants speed in his squad, Campbell possesses both speed and eyes up skill. He has a fine kicking game, but has x-factor too with his speed, is a good goal kicker and can play 7 is needed.

We could go $550k but with our cap space why not just go $600k to be safe and get him. I do fear of Perth but with Mal.

        • Price is not a problem, to answer both you and Kendoza's questions I suspect he has had enough being shoved around the paddock and also the loser type mentality that goes with the Titans after a lot of strong efforts to do otherwise.

Off course we will have the wags on here saying the same about us and that is not easily argued with.

That said I think we need to offer him the permenance of a position (5/8) or back up half if Moses gets injured, that should give opportunities to our young up and coming young halves.

PS On the Perth situation re MAL, I think you will find anyone that has been associated with the Titans will be very wary about following MAL.

          • That's a good point on being 1 then Kini back, then 7 oh Foran's back, now talk of Brimson or Campbell etc.

Put it this way, it has been for a while and will continue it's either Campbell or Brimson that has to go. Kini is the better Fullback so therefore they need to fight it out for 6, Brimson being a bigger body means he suits Centre more so.

Campbell is odd man out. Brimson could be a fine Centre but is a better 6, for better squad balance I think GC need to move one on. Paying $800k for Brimson to play Centre when he is a 6 or 1 is not great.

Campbell is very getable. We have a 6 spot open, Iongi and Moses at their spots, it's a settled spine nonetheless. And unlike in 2023 when we wanted him as a 14 x-factor we are actually buying him to play one position. You're right, he will definitely prefer that.

  • If Joash goes well, put Brown to the centres for the remainder of the year partnering Simmonson.

We're not scoring enough points at the moment with Brown at 6.

    1. Iongi

    2. Lomax

    3. Simmonson

    4. Brown

    5. Addo-Carr

    6. Joash

    7. Moses/ footy dean
