New club throws their hat in the ring for Spencer Leniu

Have a guess who it is, really i dare you. Good chance you would get it. Give up? Well it is Sydney City who are looking at Leniu. I mean it is getting ridiculous at this point. Tedesco, Manu, Suaali'i, Young, Keary, Walker, Lodge, Collins, Smith, Radley and Crichton all on big coin. Added to that is they have two starting props already in Lodge and Collins. Of course JWH is on his way out but they have younger players surely who can go on the bench.

We sort of know what they do, pay them on the lowest they can based on value and top up the rest on TPA's, but it is still ridiculous.

    • He will be getting some of JWH's money when he retires next year. Roosters attract players willing to play for a little under... it's all about the business end of town connections post footy career. That club is stacked full of Businesses associated with it. Parra would do well to follow the Rooster's lead on post NRL career opportunities.

  • They're basically taunting the NRL these days. Essentially, "you can't prove we're cheating the cap so too bad".
The NRL need to publish player wages. Only when we can see how much Roosters players are on the cap for can we truly see the rort. When we see Joey Manu at $600k and Brandon Smith for $700k for example will we understand the extent of their illegal TPA's.

    • Exactly, do what the NFL do, publish the wage of each and every player. Ever hear of an NFL team breaching the cap? No.

Michael Ennis once said he was against it as apparently he didn't want to like go to the shops with people looking at him knowing how much money he is on. Ummmm mate we know you are on a lot? What's the difference.

We all know why they don't want it, is so players can keep rorting the TPA system and teams get away with it. Same with the transfers from November 1, players do not want it moving incase it is a later date and they get hurt causing them to lose a big deal. NFL tell it like it is bad luck, NRL listen to players sometimes with this too much.

Publishing the salaries is the only way of sorting this out. Only issue is it will cause more drama when you see Joey Manu only on say 500k cause 300k is TPA's and fans do not understand. Unless they can publish the TPA's too but that could be difficult depending on the provider.

      • Manu was offered $1 million by the Warriors to play FB. He turned it down to stay and play in the Centres at the Roosters. Centre is hardly a key position these days and definitely not a $1 million dollar position or even close to that.
So what was the deal really? How close to $1 million did the Roosters pay for him to play Centre. No way Manu just 'took less'. He's getting it from somewhere. If it was a true TPA he could have earnt those TPA's playing for the Warriors. It's an extremely obvious rort yet the NRL just tells us fans to trust them.

        • Considering back in 2010, Parramatta players were willing to take a pay cut to keep Kevin Kingston and were denied.

Then when Folau was set to come back, he wanted to come to Parramatta as John was here, he set to be offered around 150k with the rest of his salary coming from TPA's then goes up to around 500-600k a year after that. NRL said he has to paid his value.

So is Manu being paid his value? Or is Uncle Nick just taunting the NRL and the NRL are too scared to do anything.

It is one reason i cannot stand Abdo, he always flexes his muscles to smaller clubs that are weak, but bows to strong clubs with influencors like Politis at Roosters, Ponisi at Melbourne.

          • To be fair, if the Kevin Kingston situation happened now, the current administration woukd help to make it happen. They are definitely more flexible these days

            • Oh definitely, but let's be fair

If the Roosters tried to do it in 2010 they would let them, that's what I'm referring to

              • Yeah, but that was eons ago . Time to move on
