New CEO

Following the appointment of former NSW Origin coach Ricky Stuart the Pirtek Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce Ken Edwards will join the Club in the new role of Chief Executive Officer of the Football Club.

One of the country’s pre-eminent sports administrators, Edwards’ appointment follows a structural review of the Eels Football Club.

The former Managing Director and CEO of the Stadium Australia Group, and more recently Executive Chairman of the Hunter Sports Group, Edwards will report directly to the Eels Board of Directors.

Eels Group CEO Bob Bentley will continue to oversee the Parramatta Leagues Club’s continued financial sustainability and development of Eels Group assets.

“The appointment of Ken Edwards is a significant coup for the Club,” Eels Chairman Roy Spagnolo said tonight.

“Under Ken the Football Club will aim to aggressively grow Eels memberships and sponsorship while Ricky works on returning the NRL team to Premiership challengers.”

“The Leagues Club’s position of strength is in no small part thanks to the guidance of Bob Bentley, who has done an outstanding job in the dual role this year.”

Bentley said Edwards’ appointment would prove a key factor in the Club’s ongoing success on and off the field.

“The Eels are at the epicentre of one of the fastest growing populations and economies in Australia. We’re in the middle of the 6th largest CBD in the country, sitting within a Greater Western Sydney population of more than 2 million people.

“We aim to become an even bigger part of this community and tonight’s announcement is another step in that process.

“It is without doubt one of the most exciting times in the Club’s history to be an Eels supporter.”

A key outcome of the structural review will see a greater emphasis on accountability in the Eels Football Department, including the NRL, NYC and Academy squads, as well as the District Junior Rugby League.

Edwards will begin his tenure immediately.

  • Just beat me to it BGG!

    • haha, sorry mate!
regardless, im liking the sounds of this bloke! only way we could possibly go is up i guess

  • “Under Ken the Football Club will aim to aggressively grow Eels memberships and sponsorship while Ricky works on returning the NRL team to Premiership challengers.” BEST

  • Same here.. Once I read the Stadium Australia part & Hunter Sports group, i can sense that this bloke should be pretty good.

  • It's good to hear that we're going towards a more business style of Board. It's what we need to move forward as a club. Hopefully this guy isn't a puppet and Spagnolo and his monkeys are sacked come December.

  • Now for a new CEO and board and we will really be heading in the right direction.

Definitely an election sweetener but none the less it looks like a solid appointment for a change.

  • That will come around in April 2013 when the board has finished it's first term and an election has been announced. Also this is for the Football club not the Leagues club which runs the NRL team, correct me if I'm wrong please

  • I think that with this appointment we'll finally see the independence of the Football Club once again. That's been one of our main problems recently. The Board has been interfering with the coach and the team. Now we have someone to worry about the Leagues Club and someone to worry about the Footy Club.

    • Past history tells us that a scenario like you have proposed is only going to happen in your dreams SE22.

It will depend on how strong Edwards is to keep the interference down to a minimum

  • We will see, i'll believe it when i see it, the board put a pretty good puppet in last time, this guy will prob be putty in the hands of the board...

He has no RL experience, nor experience of working for a sly self serving board at RL level, lets just wait n see, im tipping he will be at the mercy of the board n will be another puppet..
