Melbourne Cup Week: Tuesday 4th November; Blog Will Be Updated

Chiefy asked me to do something along these lines, and I couldn't resist his charms for once. I will list here under a starting point and update it as the week goes on.

Getty Images: Al Riffa is one of the favorites will make his Australian debut in the Melbourne Cup, but is heavily weighted, and can he adapt immediately to the firmer and faster Australian conditions over softer Irish grounds like his trainer and team have done for other Melbourne Cup winners?

Current Market

As of Tuesday 28/10

$6  Al Riffa: trained in Ireland by Joesph O'Brien (son of the legendary Aidan O'Brien) who interestingly he has won the Melb Cup twice with Australian debutants (Rekindling 2017, Twilight Payment 2020); a third time lucky charm?

$6  Half Yours: winner of the Caulfield Cup and trained in Australia by the McEvoy team. I rate would him a top four

$7  Valiant KIng: slashing second in the Caulfield Cup trained by Australia's leading and Great Trainer Chris Waller

$8  Buckeroo: 2nd to Via Vistina  in last Saturdays Cox Plate and also trained by Chris Waller

$9  Preage Nocturne

$13 Maydaan

$15 plus Others. A field of 40 hopefuls are in contention at this point in time.

My Early Tips

Box the first 4 in that betting order with a view of getting the Trifecta. Your outlay will be $24 to achieve this for a 100% return $6 will return you 25% if you want just a small flutter.

Update:  No 1: 7.30 summer time  28/10/25; Include Absurde and Vauban

Wait

On race day there will be 24 starters subject to late scratcings. The field will be finalised on Saturday night and you will have all your SWEEP information when you wake up Sunday Morning.

I might add that this blog is live, anyone and everyone can put their 2 bobs worth or ask any questions. This information could be completely different by the close of Saturdays Race Meetings, so DO NOT commit to anything yet.

    • Agree here LB, I got on 5 seconds after the Caulfield. I got $18.

      • I love doing that, seeing a champion ride then going to the next big race straight after and trying to jump on a ridiculous price.

        • Don't worry about not knowing much about racing LB, it is a wonderful sport (for Kings) and they are wonderful animals, take your wife to the races and she will fall in love with the horses.....not just the stallions lol.

My personal view and I have owned Horses, Pacers and Greyhounds is never expect to win, just hope. My wife owned a horse that won by 7 lengths at Gympie and you would have sworn she won the lottery, it got beaten the next week when favourite, that's racing. I have never seen her so disappointed since the first time she saw me naked!

To finish the story.....my saying is the the more you think you know, the less you end up knowing!

          • My wife has been to the races a few times and just goes to drink and party with friends. I am always the only one in the group down where the bookies are watching the prices and jumping in when i see a good price. I hate going with big groups as it is just a drink a thon. I go to races to enjoy the races and betting.

Another pet peeve and it is me i know, is when people call them by their number "Go #4" they have names, show them some respect. Just makes me feel like they are an object.

But i am so looking forward to the yearly chatter of "They whip the horses" and "It is cruel" from those who want to be relevant and model citizens. When in fact it is more so more cruel to not have them race. They are treated as kings. They have the best food, vets, shelter, recovery and paddocks there can be. They are so well looked after. They are born to run. Whipping is a light sting and there are regulations for over whipping. They are beautiful creatures and it breaks my heart when one gets hurt. Though at the same time it can happen anywhere. They could go for a run in the paddock and hurt themselves to the point they need to be put down.

            • Yes to all that LB, when you talk about the whip, if you actually get hold of one, you could belt your 2 year old around the bum and I bet you he wouldn't cry.......of course using the whip can be an art form, just encourage your wife to learn to bear it......they become oblivious to pain after 50 years of marriage. lol

  • Flatten The Curve ...has good form over distance and is at decent odds.

Also the jockey has a great name.

    • Don't know much about him/her.... more information Badge?

      • Good form last 10. Winner over distance. Has raced well against the yank horse.  Jockey...Thore-Hammer Hansen.

        • Never heard of Thore Hammer....met a whore once or twice (window shopping in Amsterdam with my wife).

          • Norse God of Thunder, Thor, is famous for his hammer.
