Parramatta Eels back-rower Ryan Matterson has re-signed for four seasons and will remain at the Club until the 2026 season.

Making his Origin debut last week, Ryan has been in career best form for the Eels.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said Matterson’s retention was important in helping the Eels maintain one of the best forward packs in the NRL and Ryan’s commitment to the club is a sign of his belief in the playing group, coaching staff and the direction the club is heading.

“Ryan is an integral part of our team moving forward, he’s a versatile player, has a great offload in his game and is the ultimate professional on and off the field. Since re-joining the club in 2020, Ryan has played his best football which was rewarded with selection for NSW in Origin 1.”

Matterson is a Parramatta Eels junior and has played over 130 NRL

  • Great stuff. Played terrific last night.

    • He really did Mutts, looked like a weight lifted off his shoulders. New age Lock forward, sort of found a love for the game again in the middle, getting hands on the ball more and his offload game is back with confidence.

      • He needs to be our starter there from now on with Papa on the right edge

        • Marata was great too. Back on the bench and playing in the middle we didn't loss too much when Reg came off

          • Marata has always been best served coming off the bench  or when filling in at centre

        • Couldn't agree more. That's the line up, stop tinkering.

        • I was one banging the drum for Papa to move into the middle, now i know i was wrong on that assumption. Much better with Matto at Lock.

        • Yeah Papalli is an edge player. He's a massive threat on the edges. He and Lane offer different but equally big problems for the edge defence.

  • who do we prefer, Ice or Matto?

Matto seems to have more skills set then Ice. Passes, off loads and carries the ball strong.

Ice carrys the ball strong and has a high work rate, but lacks that's passing ability.

    • I mean, they both have moments of consistency but two completely different players. Matto is now a middle forward primarily, where Papa is an edge primarily. Papa is a strength player where Matto is more finesse looking for the offload and taking defenders down with him to create space.

Papa i still believe was better in 2021 than 2022, not saying that cause he is leaving as his 2022 has been phenominal, but the new age Lock forward i think makes Matterson atm that little more valuable as out of Papali'i, Brown and Matterson, Matto is the only one who can play that Yeo style Lock position.

"Like i told everyone previously,  Footy Dean wanted out and hence we needed someone to cover Moses just as Ryles is saying.
Its that simple.  Pezet is a long term half-back and he wanted the 7 jersey hence his move after his Eels stint"
