    • I know where you are coming from Daz, I have always seen the same attributes.

Its interesting to see that Warrington (to my understanding) did not offer a contract, surprising given the attributes you noted.

I first saw Matto playing a Reserve Grade side against Broncs in Brisbane, he was 18 and I saw another young player, an 18 year old Bevan French at the same time. Seeing Parra once a year live in those days and not getting minor grade coverage outside of this witness, was a revelation to me of the" sum"of  very good juniors coming through, French looked outstanding but slight, Matterson was a monster playing as a 5/8.

Players (sportsman in general) have large ego's, without one you just don't get to even this level.

The rest is history, but I will say both those players put up with some very unfair critic's mainly from our own fan's.

I think Matto's question of not paying the fine (which he has never been allowed to forget) was one of principle but that did not seem understood by others, especially our own. he never deserved that 4 weeks and I am sure he never realised the negativity that was to be forthcoming.

I am sure that both Matto and Frenchie suffered from the "social media" that these criticisms invoked and that if you think back and made some of the criticisms ask what your role of being positive in any light may have effect on you as a person if experiencing same. Also note we savaged one of our greats through a similar process (Yes Semi was victimised as well).

I am no angel, everyone knows that, but I can reflect on things you can regret and wish sometimes to be able to take them back.......Parra2win's comment hereunder being an example.....getting called a "flog" and being "medically retired" doesn't seem to carry much empathy to me.

  • Wow, what a flog.   I reckon even if he was to want to take it up now, following the head knock, they would not even be interested...... Please just mediacally retire this clown

  • Just watched the highlight video, where has that been for Years and Years and Years - why did he not stay there - just lazy too in the NRL

  • Very fitting.

He is an ambassador for Nivea Men "SENSITIVE RANGE"

Preseason is intense 🥵, Back-to-back training, rehab, conditioning…, There’s no time to worry about sweat or irritation, that’s why I rely on NIVEA’s Men Sensitive @nivea_anz , 72h protection ✅, ...

    • I'm a sensitive man, what are you trying to say?

  • We all have an opinion of Matterson and how his career has not developed to it's potential.

It's a bit rich however to blame him for the stalemate, or the collapsing of an agreement.  For whatever reason he decided Melbourne wasn't for him.  Fair enough.

Early in the peice Eels identified three players, any one of which a deal could be structured to be acceptable.  Howarth, Utoikamanu or Coates.  Presumably between these players and the Storm, they too torpedoed an outcome.

It's not just the Eels or Matterson who played hard ball.

Zac has plenty of people & organisations to look to to see why he'll be in the stands for a while yet.
