The Parramatta Eels are pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Russell as an NRL Assistant Coach, effective from the 2027 season.
Russell joins the Eels after more than a decade of coaching experience across elite rugby league pathways and high-performance programs, most recently with the Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters.
Widely respected for his disciplined approach and attention to detail, Russell has built a reputation as a defensively minded coach who consistently develops players and teams to perform at a high level.
Parramatta Eels Head Coach Jason Ryles said Russell's experience and proven record of success made him an outstanding addition to the Club's coaching staff.
"Mark is an experienced coach with a strong track record of success across several high-performing systems," Ryles said.
"What stood out to me is his attention to detail, particularly on the defensive side of the game, and the way he genuinely cares for the people he coaches.
"He's someone who values discipline, accountability and hard work, while also creating an environment where players feel supported and can grow. We're excited to have him join our coaching staff and contribute to what we're building at Parramatta."
Russell served as Head Coach of the Melbourne Storm's Jersey Flegg Cup side, leading the team to the 2025 premiership. Most recently he held key development roles as NSW Cup Head Coach and Senior Academy Coach, helping nurture emerging talent while contributing to successful high-performance environments.
Russell joins the Eels following the recent departure of Assistant Coach Sam Moa. The Eels thank Sam for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.

Other people attacking your family doesn't give you a free pass to drag mine into a morale compass observation to how i am speaking to you.
As for 'sensitivity', that’s rich coming from someone who has to reply to every jab, sub-post about me and Wiz in threads we aren't part of, and delete his own blogs when caught out. Don't try to teach me lessons, Poppa. I have zero desire to be anything like you.
Um ok?
Yes it is the right word.
Ive seen in multiple industries head of departments refuse to admit they have made a mistake and take corrective action. Whether it be in planning, hiring, failure to address issue because they refuse to see their decision had faults. Ive seen those types of issues blow up spectacularly after a long period of time because of refusal to address them at the early stages.
Agree the way you used it is wise.
You must be a very wise man then Seraph having such knowledge and applying the appropriate mentorship, "revenge" can have similar results but someone of your philosophical wisdom would not deign such a thing.
Using the "Island of Knowledge" Metaphor would be an excellent example for you to apply that knowledge, you must have a very large Island or is it just small! Let's hope the "paradox" is not confused with Socratic Ignorance.
Who is this?
Has your account been hacked? Seeing as you rarely if ever have agreed with me, I'll just assume this is all sarcasm
Its your island not mine!
Sure thing Sir Plop of facetiousness, whatever you say
That island maybe smaller than I thought.....
Ryles said in the KTM presentation that the squad will be doing a lot of running in the off-season. Seems to be aware about the teams lack of fitness
That is an unbelievably broad statement Joel, it could be applicable just as easily by the incumbent, but in saying that Ryles has shown that aerobic ability alone is not the answer.....the reason why is Riley Smith.
The fittest player we have ever had, broke Gutho's records and has outstanding areobic ability.
That's one of the reasons that Riley's position astounds me. Some want to start him and take him off after 30 minutes and replace him with TDS who would not on face value have the same aerobic ability but obviously offers a particular difference in "style" of hooker. Personally Ilove Riley and the line speed he gives us, on top of that he seems to bring down big forwards, whether that's through technique or body strength I cannot argue. Not arguing TDS negatively either, its a matter of balance and TDS has a lot to offer in that last 20 minutes from the bench, alternatively if we are 20 in front with 20 to go, do you put TDS on....no answers are simple are they?
Back to the original focus Joel, who ever the S&C Coach is we can assume he has the formal abilities to be employed in that capacity. I am not convinced that the perceptions you alude to are actually brought on by fatigue, excess penalties of 6 again or mistakes and missed tackles that ultimately effect your work load.
So going forward I don't think members of this site can entail all these observations, but the coaching staff in general are more than capable of making there own assessments as they should.
