NSWRL has given Blacktown Workers the go-ahead to enter the Intrust Super Premiership for the first time in 52 years. The club, which is based in Western Sydney, has also formed a feeder-club partnership with the Manly Sea Eagles spanning all three tiers of NSWRL senior competitions: Sydney Shield, Ron Massey and Intrust Super Premiership, according to leagueunlimited.com.Given the talent spanning the western Sydney area, this is a HUGE deal for Manly. The teams will play as the "Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles" from 2017.

  • Quite simply it's a joke!!!
  • Isn't Blacktown generally aligned with Penrith? Actually we have already lost Mt Pritchard to Canberra.
  • I heard they got Amone
    • Yeah that's the talk on silvertails. Could pick up for them and good on him. He would have played RMC here but he's in line for a bench spot with a couple of injuries.
  • I used to verse them in the penrith comp, they're pretty bad all through the grades

  • I really don't think it will make much difference to Manly having this connection.  The talented local juniors will want to play for Parramatta, Penrith or West Tigers u16's, u18's and u20's.  There won't be many talented Blacktown juniors interested in travelling from Blacktown or further west to Manly for training and back again several days a week.

This move is only going to piss off the fringe first graded who will have a lot of travel between training and playing, particularly if they are up and down from first grade and second grade.

This move/new feeder club link is for two reasons.  Firstly the Manly club (privately owned) wants to reduce the cost of running their second tier team and the money spent on their second tier players will be slashed.  Secondly, Manly don't have a team in the Ron Massey Cup and don't have those extra players to draw upon when injury occurs.

As a Parra fan I wouldn't be worried.

  • Good for Manly but it won't affect us as a club all that much.

"TDS is still young, with plenty of improvement left in him. He could still play Flegg in 2026 ffs. And despite being two years younger than Ryley Smith, he has played nine more NRL games."
